How many Ottos?12 Feb 2005 11:17 GMT2
Sounds like the beginning of a joke but....
I put in three Ottos a few days ago in my 26g to get rid of algae on
my rocks (not much on my sides yet).  They seem to prefer the glass
right now.  Do I have enough in my tank for them to start noticing the
Switching filters - how long until new one is mature ?12 Feb 2005 00:09 GMT3
I have a 48 x 12 x 15" tank which is home to my three large goldfish.
I am moving from a Fluval Biolife to an Eheim 2213 as the Biolife is
just too noisy inside the tank (for the fish - I'm trying to give them
as natural an environment as possible).
New fishes!12 Feb 2005 00:04 GMT8
I just picked up a couple Albino Corydoras from the LFS. I've always
used Petsmart because they had the cleanest looking tanks and the
cheapest prices. Bad move. Now I have found Wolfgang, the local fish
guy.
fish died11 Feb 2005 10:59 GMT4
I've just lost all 3 of my goldfish in a 20 gal tank due to a bacterial
infection. Now I want to use that tank for guppies. The question is, how can
I prevent the new fish from getting infected? Is there such thing as a
quarantine for an fishless tank? It still has some live ...

platy fry11 Feb 2005 01:05 GMT12
I'd read on various websites that platys would eat their young.  Other
sites said they would not.  Well, one of mine dropped a litter the other
day and she immediately joined the other platys (and the betta) in
eating them.
Lids?10 Feb 2005 23:39 GMT4
I bought a new stand. It is a Sedona wooden stand, with a wooden hood.
There is a picture of it here:

Because of the wooden hood, the lid I have is now a pain, because it's hard
Betta chasing and damaging his own tail10 Feb 2005 22:36 GMT24
OK.  Got a problem I've never seen before.  My mentally retarded betta
is swimming in circles, chasing and damaging his own tail!
The tail problems started when I used a mirror to give him another fish
to flare at for a half hour or so.  I realized the next morning that he
Fish Food10 Feb 2005 03:04 GMT2
I realize there is a whole little mini industry devoted to this but in a
brief description what is the basic difference in content between goldfish,
tropical and cichlid food.
Thanxx
18 g tank10 Feb 2005 03:02 GMT2
I was thinking of replacing a 10 with an 18 g - hood is the same and I have
a filter I could move, but I am wondering two things.  1) If I have platys
and mollys am I really gaining capacity for more of them, or just more room
for a few top or bottom dwellers. 2) If I put a ...
black kuhlis, harlequin rasboras and a dwarf gourami09 Feb 2005 23:29 GMT6
Well, the title says it all...
the dwarf gourami was a little unexpected. I was planning on the kuhlis
and the rasboras, as they go together nicely and I know that they can be
kept very happily in our not entirely ideal water, but I did realise
Problem with Allglass fluorescence fixtures09 Feb 2005 15:40 GMT2
I have two small freshwater tanks, one is 10 gallon, other 5 gallons.
I have two lamps by Allglass over them and I have noticed the white
plastic reflector is not dealing well with the heat the bulb generates.
Not only it gets soft when hot and bends in many directions, but when
Crawfish in need of help!09 Feb 2005 08:03 GMT5
Well, I was hiking one day (I live in Huntsville, AL) and I noticed
tiny "lobsters" in a stream. Brown colored, about 1" long, like little
miniature lobsters. I have a few fish in a small 5 Gal tank at home and
I thought a small crawfish like that would help "clean" whatever flakes
Fish tank, but no filter?08 Feb 2005 22:29 GMT11
In the near future, I'm looking to start up a 75 gallon fish tank.
Probably a community tank (tetras, gouramis, barbs, etc.) with a few
"standard" plants- Elodea, Amazon Sword, etc.  Nothing fancy.
I work at a pet store and am able to get everything at cost (which is
New Aquarium Cycling Problem - Please Help!08 Feb 2005 12:02 GMT8
First of all, I want to let everyone know that I have read the FAQ and
understand that my tank had to go through the cycling process, however, I'm
at my wits end on why my ammonia levels are still off the charts (> 8.0)
after 2 weeks.  I'm using the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Ammonia ...
