My tank smells like salami!18 Mar 2005 20:51 GMT3
I have a new 35 gallon hexagon tropical tank with a cascade 700 filter,
it come with the hood and light. I leave the light on for about 3 - 4
hours a day.  It came with the small pebble stones and a large
decoration/cave(the stones were already cleaned by the pet shop and I
SAE or Flying Fox18 Mar 2005 07:34 GMT2
Just wondering if a Flying Fox and a Siamese Algae Eater (SAE) are the
same fish?
Water Chemistry18 Mar 2005 02:02 GMT28
I finally bought GH and KH test kits last night and started testing. I
figured I should at least have some idea of how much CO2 my DIY
generator is putting into the system (not much as it turns out, but
mostly because it has slowed down over the past day or so). I was
Some observations and questions regarding Barbs and sugar in DIY CO218 Mar 2005 00:33 GMT12
I got my 4 Tiger Barbs this afternoon and they're in the same tank as the 5
BATs I had so much trouble with a while ago - any way there is a pecking
order being established at the moment - inter and intra-species. All the
fish are a similar size and the Tetras are too fast for ...
Lambchop rasboras spawning!17 Mar 2005 21:44 GMT6
Had the funniest thing happen.  I've been feeding conditioning foods to
the fish to get them ready for missed feedings while I'm on vacation.
Also been changing a lot of water so that tank conditions will stay very
good.
Betta and cranefly17 Mar 2005 11:00 GMT1
Came home to the funniest scene.  Somehow a cranefly had managed to find
its way under the cover of my betta's tank.  Squishy was trying SO hard
to figure out how to eat what was obviously a new food item but it just
wouldn't fit in his mouth.  Every time the fly's leg broke the ...
Eat the Brine Shrimp, Darnit!17 Mar 2005 05:57 GMT34
Being a fairly new aquarium owner, of course I want to feed my fish
great food.  My plan was to alternate frozen bloodworms with frozen
brine shrimp and a high-quality flake food.  (Fast day every Wed.)
The bloodworms and brine shrimp I bought in frozen "gumdrops" packages
random wildlife?!17 Mar 2005 05:44 GMT5
strange things have appeared in a small, (overpopulated) tank.
there are plants, kuhlis, rasboras and a dwarf gourami.
in one corner I have noticed some very, very tiny animals in amongst the
fronds of a very fine-leafed plant. I've been watching the corner
Grundfos submersible pump unrepairable?17 Mar 2005 04:41 GMT1
I just moved into a tropical bungalow which has a very shallow indoor pond.
Its
2 yrs old but hasn't been used. I switched it on over the weekend and its
seems ok. But the water flow is dead slow at the end of the pond.
Pleco Behavior17 Mar 2005 04:21 GMT2
I added a pleco to my tank a couple of weeks ago. I have noticed that
every now and then it will bolt for the surface and take a gulp of
air--at least this is what it looks like. It doesn't happen often, and
the other fish seem to be fine. I have heard that coreys will do this,
Vacation betta care question17 Mar 2005 00:17 GMT4
I picked up a second betta with really bad timing.  I was at the local
aquarium society and there was a young red and blue male crowntail betta
in the auction that I couldn't resist.
He's jarred at the moment (waiting for his eventual spot in a divided 10
Protein content of brine shrimp - Artemia 17 Mar 2005 00:15 GMT12
I'm surprised to read the protein content of brine shrimp
is as high as it is - 6% dry, 60% live.
But still, 6% protein  in a dry food is pretty low.
It also seems to be greatly influenced by diet:
Woohooo got my new aquarium...16 Mar 2005 21:29 GMT20
Hi guys...
I finally decided and got a 33gal tank kit from Hagen.
It is a nice tank and it came with an aquaclear 70 filter it has a bio
filter and it is designed for 40-70gal tanks... I guess that should be
Second casualty... :(16 Mar 2005 17:07 GMT21
Overnight I lost a female guppie... Don't know what happened...
Last night it looked fine, and this morning it's dead...
I Still have four neons, two gouramis, two platties and a male guppie.
One question about the guppies and the platties.
1) adding Pygmy Cory's    2)Changing tank substrate in "re-established" tank16 Mar 2005 07:04 GMT6
I'm up on about 5 weeks on a tank that I took over from a neighbor - by
this point syphoning is finally bringing up normal amounts of debris
(was very *very* dirty at the beginning.
The facts are
