| Question for the Betta People | 16 Mar 2005 05:01 GMT | 13 |
Is a 2.5 gallon big enough for a Betta? And what about heating it? I read that you should never put a heater in a tank that small, but I know they like it warm. A

| add gravel back into tank | 16 Mar 2005 03:18 GMT | 3 |
I've got a 55 gallon tank that is established. It's bare bottom and I have some potted plants that are thriving. I'm toying with the idea of adding gravel and taking the plants out of the pots. I removed the gravel because of all the crap that accumulated when I had goldfish. ...

| No water changes for one year | 15 Mar 2005 21:18 GMT | 32 |
I've got a 15 gallon tank with about eight platys and a pl*co in it, no plants. I used to lose a fish every 6-8 weeks. This seemed to happen right after water changes even though I was using that chlorine remover stuff and only changing about 2 gallons/week. So I did an ...

| Is this normal? | 15 Mar 2005 19:09 GMT | 4 |
A couple of days ago, I decided to give my bristlenose a new hidey hole (slate/rocks) which she immediately took to - hadn't even moved my hand away before she moved in to her new digs. Yesterday, I was peeking into the hole to see how she was doing, and she was

| Molly problem | 15 Mar 2005 18:12 GMT | 5 |
I have a 10 gal tank with 4 platies and 1 molly - al but one is male. In the past 3-5 days I have noticed the molly has a nearly transparent poop trail and is not eating. It is a bit more isolationist than norm, but all in all acts pretty normal. At feed time it will swim ...

| Gill Fluttering? | 15 Mar 2005 08:28 GMT | 20 |
I bought an African Elephant Nose fish today. Neat little guy. I've read a lot about them in the past week and know enough to keep him happy. When I first put him in the tank though (about ten minutes ago) I

| Does betta constipation actually exist? | 15 Mar 2005 05:45 GMT | 6 |
Can someone share a reference to a book or an article in a well-known fishkeeping publication where swollen bettas were dissected post mortem and intestinal blockage rather than kidney failure, egg binding, or cancer was found? I have a sneaking suspicion that betta ...

| Osmotic Stress Relief? | 15 Mar 2005 00:24 GMT | 5 |
I missed a bunch of posts in the recent thread, so sorry if this has already been discussed. I am wondering to what degree, if at all, can this hard water/soft water osmotic stress be relieved? My intuition is that it probably

| How bad does it get? | 14 Mar 2005 11:00 GMT | 6 |
The thread a few days ago, started by the chap who said that his setup worked better without any water changes for over a year set me to thinking. Just how bad will things get in my own betta tanks, even *with* water changes?

| Betta Constipated? | 14 Mar 2005 07:22 GMT | 27 |
About a week ago I noticed that one of my male Bettas (beautiful split-tail) was bulging in the gut, looking as though he'd swallowed a marble. I did the requisite online searches to see what I could do. I got the strong impression this is a common problem.

| Nitrate but no nitrite? (fishless cycling) | 14 Mar 2005 02:42 GMT | 10 |
I'm doing a fishless cycle on my 20H tank. I've been testing ammonia and nitrite daily, but haven't been testing nitrate very much. I figured there wasn't any point to it until I saw nitrite, and the nitrate test is a royal pain to do -- it's the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals

| The heater can't keep up, going back to LFS | 13 Mar 2005 16:19 GMT | 20 |
I am taking back the elite radiant 100w heater... it can't keep up with my 33gal tank. It is cracked to the max and the little temp sticker shows 24C. I'm going to switch to a 200W heater one...
