Why do my Betta's keep trying to kill themselves?26 May 2005 20:21 GMT8
I'm on my third betta in my fish keeping life, and all of them have
spent their time trying to swim onto leaves at the surface, which
usually results in the fish lying prone on a lilly or whatever, unable
to get back in the water.  I've lost count the number of times I've had
Filtration change?26 May 2005 16:11 GMT3
My air pump for UGF on a 20g tank (established for 4 years) has given
out. I would like a quieter option and have been looking into other
types of filtration. I am considering pulling out the UGF and replacing
with a power filter of some sort with the aim of finding something
Sick Mollie26 May 2005 10:44 GMT23
Did the normal tank check including my son's tanks and noticed one of the
mollies was not swimming around as normal....Son checked in depth and found
her at the bottom of the tank curved round herself.
We did a quick water check - ammonia was 0.1, nitrites 0 and pH had risen to

A friend mentioned to me that the aquarium in the Nip/Tuck series was cool.
Anyone got any pics or link to it?

I have a 29 gal tank, which is finally CYCLED - YEA!! Anyhoo, I need some
ideas on top swimming fish. I have read up on most, and alot are middle,
such as gourami, barbs and tetras. Mollys and platys are all, and cories,
clown loaches are bottom (as well as most cat fish). Any ...
Breeding Livebearer Trick26 May 2005 04:30 GMT2
I breed Swordtails and Mollies. I just can't bring myself to put a fully
loaded fish into a net or a trap for the delivery of the fry.
I found this idea somewhere and it works great! Put Marbles on the
bottom of the breeding tank instead of gravel. When the female delivers
New tank, old stuff, no wait?25 May 2005 18:56 GMT7
I'm setting up a "new" 30 gal. tank.  I'm using enough stuff from my
other well established cycling tanks that I'm hoping I won't have to
wait for the tank to cycle.
STUFF FROM OTHER TANKS:
Reusing filter media....25 May 2005 18:55 GMT7
Ok, I sure don't have all the tech stuff about filtration down pat.  I
have a very general understanding.
Here's my question -- Why not rinse out old filter cartridges in
running tap water & reuse them?
help... what's wrong?25 May 2005 15:32 GMT6
Just got new fish for my 29 gal tank. a black ghost, 2 mollies, 3 tiger
barbs (down from 4), a cat, and a pleco. My ammonia is running about 0.5 - 1
(it had spiked to 4 ppm, but we have been doing water changes everyday, and
added ammo lock). My pH is 7.8 (same as the LFS that I ...

New to group and a dilemma24 May 2005 23:52 GMT36
Hi, I've come here with a bit of a dilemma. My grandson who lives with
me along with his mother, received a Spongebob aquarium as a gift. It's
1.8 gallons with gravel and an air pump.
Originally he was given two goldfish but a quick check showed that to

Hi Elaine,
Just curious as to whether it was you who posted the reply to Kathy on her
welcome or whether someone is trying to steal your identity....?

It's a jam jar! and it has hornwort, duckweed and an aquatic grassy
thing rooted in the sand & gravel substrate and growing out of the top
of the jar for when the inhabitant, a dragonfly nymph, needs to fly.
Life span of Fluval internal filter?22 May 2005 22:56 GMT3
The Fluval 3 internal filter, almost 2 years old, seems to be losing its
power.
Is 2 years more or less the useful life of this type of filter?
Thanks for any feedback.
