Setting up a new planted tank...22 May 2005 20:12 GMT30
I'm planning on setting up a 15 gal high tank and would like to plant it.
I'm planning on lining the bottom with an inch or so of flourite and then an
inch of black sand that I have left over from other tanks.  I have a hagen
CO2 canister system that uses yeast, aquaclear 150 (and a ...

Filter wash vs change?22 May 2005 10:56 GMT15
Sorry, another dumb newbie question...
The water in my filter is starting to pour back over the intake side
indicating it is becoming clogged. My 29-gallon tank is barely through
its nitrogen cycle. Should I change to a new filter & charcoal or just

Anyone here ever try a deep Sand bed in a fresh water tank?21 May 2005 12:29 GMT1
Just on a whim after getting out of the Salt Water hobby, I tried a deep
sand bed of Playsand (About 4-6 inches) in my 80 gallon tank.  I'm one of
those wacko's that likes to put local wildlife from my vacations into my
tank to see how they do. I've REALLY lucked out with some ...
Moving 30 gallon tank 3'21 May 2005 04:34 GMT7
I need to move my 30 gallon, freshwater tank approximetly 2-3' to paint
the wall behind the tank.
Any advice on the best way to do this?  I'm hoping I can just empty the
tank 1/2 way and slide it but I want to see if anyone else has tried
Amquel - does it destroy your bio filter?21 May 2005 04:30 GMT1
On the bottle of amquel, it states that it REMOVES nitrite, nitrate, and
ammonia. It says each dose will REMOVE 1.2 ppm of ammonia, 2 ppm of nitrite,
and 13 ppm of nitrate.
Ammo lock just says that it detoxifies ammonia, but does not REMOVE it.

Having a problem! Pleco and sand bed20 May 2005 18:50 GMT6
Hey everyone, I am having a problem.  I few month back I put together
a new tank for my son with a spare 10g tank and filter I had lying
around.  This is not my first fresh water tank but it is my first with
a sand bed.  I have had 2 plecos come and go in it and I am wondering
Jordanella floridae - Flag Fish20 May 2005 01:50 GMT1
I have had a pair of Flag Fish in my q-tank for a month and then some
weeks in my community tank. One thing that changed after they have been
in the tank for almost a week is that I have a hard time trying to find
a pest snail.
Bio Wheel Question19 May 2005 22:52 GMT22
I have an old Penguin 300 with two bio wheels (used).  Been stored in garage
several months, completely dry, look clean.
Should I replace the bio wheels  before putting this filter to use?
TIA
need advice on getting rid of snails19 May 2005 20:20 GMT15
Thanks to the plants that I added to the tank, I have snails.  What's the most effective way of ridding the suckers?  I squash ~5/day.  The tank has community fish (white clouds, platies, guppies, tetras) and shrimp as well as a bunch of plants.
Eclipse System 3 Issue19 May 2005 15:47 GMT6
I just bought an Eclipse System 3 Aquarium.  I am having trouble with it
~overheating.  Thinking it was the lighting (6W NO haha), I left the
lighting off for a day (I don't have fish yet). The temperature did not
decline.  In fact, it went up - from 81F to 83F.  I am now quite ...
