| heater? | 04 May 2005 23:56 GMT | 22 |
my new (secondhand) tank came with a heater, which looks to be about the right wattage for a cold winter's night, but rather overdone for the summer... 35 (US) gallon; heater = 200W. Is this a problem?

| Blue Rams and Kribs OK? | 04 May 2005 22:51 GMT | 5 |
Evening all, I'm looking for opinions on whether it would be OK to add a couple blue rams to my 75gal (50% plants, plenty of driftwood) community tank? I already have a pair of kribs in there and would like to add rams, but am wondering whether this will cause problems. My ...

| Guppies at ambient temperature? | 04 May 2005 16:51 GMT | 5 |
fishes "in the wild" usually don't live in an temperature-stable environment, oposite an aquarium where you can set a temperature and then it's keept forever. Thinking about this, i was wondering what would be the survival chances

Actually I blame Elaine - he,he. After seeing her beautiful Hex tank I have been determined to get one for the living room - I'm not allowed any more big tanks so getting the little ones in is my only way forward.....Last night hubbie agreed so off I went to get one today before any ...

| Otto Catfish | 04 May 2005 13:48 GMT | 8 |
I went out and bought two Otto catfish to replace my dead CAE. Well two hours later, they are both DEAD. I believe Elaine T mentioned in another post that they are prone to illness and death. Any other recommendations for keeping my algae build up in check?

| Disguising equipment (cross-posted) | 04 May 2005 09:23 GMT | 10 |
I don't like seeing equipment in tanks. I usually hide heaters behind pieces of wood and build rockwork around filter pipes (always ensuring good circulation though!). I have just got hold of a tall (5ft!) narrow (2ft) tank that is 5ft long.

| Shy cories | 03 May 2005 19:20 GMT | 10 |
Our cories are really shy. They were more sociable (although still fairly skittish) when we first got them. As far as the water goes, it's a steady 78 degrees F, 0 ammonia and nitrite, and very little nitrate (we keep it as low as possible, between 5 and 15). As far as decoration

| Silicates and Brown Algae | 03 May 2005 17:37 GMT | 5 |
I think I finally figured out why I can't get rid of my brown algae after a year and a half with this tank. My water department adds sodium silicate at one of the town wells for "iron and manganese treatment and corrosion control". They expect the SiO2 level at my house to be ...

| Betta colour change | 03 May 2005 03:15 GMT | 4 |
I gather it's nothing to worry about, but I thought I would ask. My newly acquired deep blue (purple) Betta is changing colour. The first two flowing fins behind his/her pectoral fins are turning blood red and white. The fish is very active, eats everything in sight and built a ...

| Koi and Garden Pools by Herbert R. Axelrod (1940) | 03 May 2005 02:49 GMT | 1 |
I have this book for sale on eBay. Cheap and in great condition. It's a nice intro to how to set up a koi pond. Hopefully someone else will find it as useful as I did. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4546227531&rd=1&sspagename=ST RK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

| Finicky betta finally eating | 03 May 2005 00:04 GMT | 5 |
I finally saw my new betta eat again. I moved him to the side of the tank with the filter and more water movement and put a flare buddy (Splash, my CT) on the other side of the plastic canvas divider. Blackworms finally started disappearing, but I didn't know for sure that
