| Thanks for discus help and update | 01 Jul 2005 00:45 GMT | 2 |
Thanks to all who responded for my requests for help with Flower, the gift discus. Flower has finally colored up and is simply breathtaking. He's a high-fin red turquoise with great markings on his face, gills, and anal fin. He's become the boss of the tank, much as NetMax ...

| ameca splendens fin nippers? | 30 Jun 2005 19:49 GMT | 1 |
Hau kolas.. I've had a problem with hair/thread algae in a 29 gallon tank for quite a while now. long story short, got some ameca splendens to eat the stuff versus poisoning it. Time and time again these got the nod from others. anyway, not only have they not touched the algae, ...

| Active, colorful and peaceful... | 30 Jun 2005 10:10 GMT | 11 |
That is my goal for my new 20G tank. So far I have the two platys that came from the 3 gallon tank. Since this is my first foray into fishkeeping I also want easy and hardy guys, preferably on the smaller side. After a lot of reading I am considering some combination of the

| Help from Goldfish Enthusiasts | 29 Jun 2005 21:25 GMT | 12 |
There is this thing that the local mall is doing for kids, they are going to give out 100 goldfish each with a 1 gallon (give or take- medium critter keeper ) container. This is animal cruelty. Comet goldfish need 20 gallons per fish. Its like keeping a dog in the cabinet ...

| New Fish Always killing off the tank. | 29 Jun 2005 21:15 GMT | 17 |
I'm having problems adding new fish to my 30 gallon freshwater tank. (I typically keep guppies and neon tetras in my tank with a pleco or two). All the water levels are fine, temp is fine, etc. (ph is actually a little high at 7.6, but that doesn't seem to be a problem). My tank ...

| One fish stressed -- what to do? | 29 Jun 2005 20:55 GMT | 7 |
With my cichlid tank I thought everyone was ok after the UGF problems. I noticed after a couple hours after changing the water that one fish was in trouble. He seemed very pale, breathing hard, swimming all over the tank. He holds his fins close to his body. He

| Lost my guppy last night. | 29 Jun 2005 10:24 GMT | 5 |
Sadly I lost my male guppy last night. I found it this morning being sucked by the filter... The only sign that I could notice on hom was that his back fin looked like it was cracking and pieces were missing.

| Betta light levels | 29 Jun 2005 07:12 GMT | 2 |
How much light can Bettas tolerate? I finally finished Junior's canopy (26W) for his 10 gallon and I was wondering if it's too much. He seems fine, but I thought I would ask. I want to add some real plants at some point in the future, that's why I went with

| Betta's fins are breaking | 29 Jun 2005 07:10 GMT | 6 |
I took pity on a betta at the pet food place, and bought him. He is in a 65 litre tank with some balloon mollies, a gold pl*co, a spotted pl*co, one large angel fish and one large kissing gourami ( the last three were from a friend of a friend and were in desperate need of a home).

| Fe - how much do you add? | 29 Jun 2005 02:13 GMT | 2 |
Got a phosphate kit and Fe kit. Phosphates were ok. Iron was not registering even though I put in 15 ml of "Plant Zone" yesterday. My Swords are looking a bit worn down. For those who have fully planted tanks, how much do you add weekly?

| My Beta seems to be sick | 28 Jun 2005 23:30 GMT | 9 |
My beta seems to have some specs of what looks like white dust on the side of its gill. Other than that he seems to be doing fine. His colour on top and on the side is quite dark, and he still has long fins. Is he sick?

| bare grate for UGF. Did I do the right thing? (long) | 28 Jun 2005 22:24 GMT | 2 |
Today when I was changing the water I noticed that there was a spot on the grate for the UGF that was bare. I know that means bad news -- bad bacteria and other nasties grow in the other portions of the UGF. I have no idea how long it's been like that.

| LFS story | 28 Jun 2005 03:33 GMT | 2 |
I was in one of the stores where I live a couple weeks ago and looking at the fish. One of the tanks had Neon Tetras, quite small. In the same tank were the Cardinal Tetras, same size as the Neons. Now, I'm wondering if this is particularly clever of the store people. I mean,
