I am not a food source15 Jun 2005 02:33 GMT3
I used to think the GF (Goldfish) were pretty laid back about their weekly
cleaning. But they've got nothing on the Tiger Barbs. I can usually count on
being nibbled whenever I put my arm into the tank. They were even swimming
into the net after the Algae I was trying to scoop ...

What pump to vacuum/syphon aquarium?14 Jun 2005 03:52 GMT3
I have a small 5/6 gallon aquarium which I am using as a quarantine
tank. Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, it has to sit on the
floor under my main tank. Obviously I cannot syphon-vac this tank and
have been using a turkey baster to remove crud from the bottom. Not very

Anyone know how frequently the EhfiMech and EhfiSubstrat should be replaced?
Thanks - Dave

Acquired used tank complete with 10 cichlids!13 Jun 2005 16:25 GMT10
I bought a tank setup from someone who is moving on Sunday.  It
includes 10 cichlids and a pleco.  My water was very different than
the aquarium water so I took 2+ hours to aclimate them via the drip
method and I took as much aquarium water as I could.  I just let
Fish wasting away13 Jun 2005 14:37 GMT6
What causes fish to simply waste away?  I've had it happen to several
recently - not all at once, usually just one at a time.  Doesn't look
like it's a water quality issue.  Is it parasites?  Virus?
I found two new fish in my tank. :)12 Jun 2005 22:31 GMT14
I did today my routinely water change and after I was done I usually
just sit a bit and look at the activity in tank.
That's when I noticed that I have two extra fish. :)
Yep I have baby fish.
Prophylactic antibiotic for betta?11 Jun 2005 19:53 GMT3
I just brought a new betta home yesterday I got from the local PetCo.
I'm wondering if there would be any harm in giving it a round of
antibiotics just to make sure it's not carrying any diseases.  I've had
problems with fish from PetCo in the past, and I always thought I'd try
salt to fresh11 Jun 2005 05:41 GMT7
I just got a 29H Island aquarium with a hood.  It was last used as a
saltwater tank.  I'm going to use it for freshwater tropicals.
It appears to be clean, the only deposits I've found are on the hood.
Other than rinsing out the tank, is there anything I have to do to
Lost my first red crab11 Jun 2005 05:17 GMT5
I lost a red crab last night.
I don't know why, all I can say is that it was out on my "island" all
day yesterday and looked alright, last night he was under it.
The only difference in the tank apart the water changes and the added

Tetras behaviour11 Jun 2005 00:16 GMT1
I have had some Buenos Aires Tetras for about 9 months now.  I originally
had 3 with 3 small cories. Then I read they preferred larger groups.  So I
bought 3 more - fairly light load for a 29 gallon tank.  For quite a while
everything seemed hunky dory.  Frequently I would enjoy ...
Relaxing to watch?10 Jun 2005 22:46 GMT43
Every so often someone mentions how relaxing it is to watch their
fish.  It strikes me as odd to say such.  I do enjoy my fish, but to
say it is relaxing?  While I look at the fish my eyes are searching
for possible ill fish, any fin nipping, any signs that I am over
Losing fish...any ideas appreciated10 Jun 2005 20:07 GMT62
This is really a continuation from the Sick Mollie in my son's tank and
subsequent loss of two Mollies last weekend. I did my normal check this
morning and now one of the Rosy Barbs is on her way out. Checked the water
pH 8 (normal for our tanks), 0 Ammonia and Nitrites and Nitrates ...
