Is The pleclosumus a living fossil?05 Jul 2005 11:42 GMT8
Sorry if I misspelled the name of the strange yet popular catfish. I
had been pondering this fish and think it may be an ancient unchanged
species fish.
Discus Tank Advice05 Jul 2005 01:31 GMT5
I have MTS in full swing, and have the go-ahead from the spouse to set
up a large (90+ gallon) discus-only tank.  I currently have a 50-gallon
bowfront with angelfish, 2 gouramis (1 gold and 1 pearl), cory cats,
cardinal tetras, and 2 ottos.  In a 10-gallon divided tank, I have 2
Update: new job + raise = new tank05 Jul 2005 00:15 GMT3
Alright well I got a really great deal on a 55 gallon tank (48x13x20)
with a matching stand and everything so I got it and it's currently
sitting in my closet begging to be set up. The plan is to wait until
after the move to the apartment before setting it up, just to help
Impact on electric bill?05 Jul 2005 00:06 GMT3
I am thinking about getting a 75g tank.  Currently the biggest tank I've
ever had was 26g.  Any vague idea what I'm looking at in terms of
electricity usage?  It would just be community freshwater, no plants,
so the main cost would be the heating.
Aquaclear filter media volume?04 Jul 2005 20:48 GMT2
Does anyone know the media volume of an Aquaclear 30 (old 150) or
Aquaclear 50 (old 200)?  I'd be very grateful for the inside
measurements of the media basket on these filters.
I'm switching my guppy tank over to HDL Tri-Base Carbon and the
Looking for Recommendations04 Jul 2005 16:54 GMT8
We will be buying the 20 gallon tank this weekend. Other than the Zebra
Danios (I'm thinking a total of 6 or 8) what would be something to add.
I would like a little color if possible.
Also, what about algae eaters and bottom feeders? I haven't had a
Suitable external filter?04 Jul 2005 03:06 GMT8
A couple of years ago, I was given three white cloud mountain minnows
as a present! This is the gift: http://www.minnokubes.co.uk/. They came
in a small perspex box of about 1 gallon (from memory). Well, despite
the absence of pump of filtration, they seemed quite happy, but my
Brinse Shrimp a bust04 Jul 2005 00:41 GMT2
I bought some Brine Shrimp for the crew, but it did not go over well.
The Betta was a definite no, eating the same piece over and over again and
spitting it out. The GF (Goldfish) were the same story, except they were
bright enough to realise it was the same food after they tried ...
Largest freshwater Fish02 Jul 2005 12:03 GMT6
It seems a huge catfish was found. Here's the link.

That fish puts my Corys to shame.

I would love to have a moonlight system in my tank.02 Jul 2005 04:33 GMT31
I've been thinking that it would be cool to have a moonlight light in
my tank.
I am not sure if freshwater fish care for it, but it would just add a
bit more realism to the tank for the fish. :)
Filter full of eggs!02 Jul 2005 04:32 GMT1
We had a prolonged power failure last night, so I was up cleaning the
cansiter filters after the power was restored. To my surprise, both filters
on the 75G Goldfish tank were full of eggs. These were small white jellied
bumps about the size of half a BB. Could these be GF eggs ...
New Spawn Try01 Jul 2005 23:44 GMT1
Okay. I am now trying to get Blaze and Sweetie to spawn. I've had on
time failed, due to him being a little too aggressive. Now, he's bee
in complete isolation, and seems a little nicer. He has blown a bubbl
nest, and I am thinking he is confused. I put a sty half cup in for
Continuous Gravel Vacuum01 Jul 2005 03:28 GMT6
Been busy lately and have not had time for groups.  As usual when I come up
to the next project I consult with the freshwater community for their
advice.
I am considering Netmax's Continuous Gravel Vacuum
