older aquarium27 Sep 2005 08:31 GMT1
I picked up a used aquarium. It's got wood trim, and a built in filter
column in one corner. I suspect that it is quite old, though I have no idea
of it's actual history. I have it full of water right now, testing it. It
did not come with any of the mechanical or plumbing parts ...
guppies tired with sick fins26 Sep 2005 22:19 GMT1
I just removed a dead guppy which almost hadn't tail fin, but i have
noticed other bad case very similar: another guppy with very
deteriorated tail fin (it's almost as the dead one), which seems to
refuse to swim (it's resting on the hollow trunk now). There's another

I have four freshwater aquariums running at present, three more in
reserve: one 20 gallon (for rooting plant trimmings, plus a couple of
Otos as needed), two 30 gallon (Mollies, Neons, and Corys in one;
Adding More Neons26 Sep 2005 12:37 GMT1
I've finally upgraded from a 10 to a 55 gallon freshwater planted
tank.  80 watts of flourescent lighting (pair of 4' GE Chroma 50's).
Filtration courtesy of an AquaClear 300.  Plants and fish seem to be
doing fine.

Rapid cycling bacteria25 Sep 2005 23:41 GMT14
I haven't wanted to jump in on the thread where people are debating
about cycling, but I've had my attention drawn to a few new bacterial
products that everyone should be aware of.
According to some very experienced aquarists, all of these products can
My CAE finally showed his true colours... which tankmates to choose?25 Sep 2005 22:46 GMT13
I have been reading with great interest comments that people had made
about 3" and larger CAEs getting aggressive towards other tank
inhabitants. Mine was always a reasonably placid sort of creature,
spending every waking moment vacuuming everything in sight clean of

Magnum 350 Pro carbon substitute25 Sep 2005 17:56 GMT4
I have 2 mag 350s pro's on a 125 gal with 2 oscars and pl*co.  both
running bio wheels.  I use the micron cartridge once and a while and
have been keeping carbon in my media container for the most part.  I
have been reading and most ppl say that carbon shouldn't be used unless
correct filtration for a 220gal tank25 Sep 2005 17:02 GMT11
My current tank is 55g. I got it back in the early 90s. It's been a
great tank thats served me and my freshwater fish well over the years.
I recently purchased an upgrade for $550. it's a used 220gal tank (7'
long 2' thick). it came with a magnum 350 with the 2 bio wheels, 5
AquaClear vs. Magnum vs. Emperor ?25 Sep 2005 15:11 GMT15
I've googled the heck out of this, but I've yet to find anything
resembling  "the great filter shoot-off".
I just now upgrading from my 55gal tank to a 220. So I'm looking to get
the best filtration for the buck. the tank came with one Magnum 350 pro
Green Water and a HOT Magnum25 Sep 2005 14:03 GMT3
resulted in very clean water in three or four days.
I am setting all my tanks up again, one went green.  I used the HOT
Magnum with the micron filter, the water is sparkly now.
It's nice when something works out well.
What's the air intake tube for?25 Sep 2005 05:33 GMT1
Please excuse my ignorance on filters, but I just bought an internal
power filter 2400L/h, and the box doesn't have instructions.  I put it
together and it works well, you should have seen all the crud that my
gravelvac didn't suck up... the filter sure did!
