cloudy water15 Sep 2005 13:11 GMT6
My wife's aunt has a tank and she is having trouble with the water being
very cloudy. She has 2 tanks, both use the same water, but one is fine and
the other cloudy. She has had this trouble for a month or so, she has tried
water changes and cleaned the tank. She has also changed ...
Under Gravel filters15 Sep 2005 05:25 GMT34
I'm fairly new, well returning actually,  to this hobby.  My family has
a couple of small 10 gal tanks that we are currently tending.  We're
planning on stepping that up considerably to a seventy gallon or
possibly a 110 gallon that a friend of mine is possibly looking to part
Think I've finished my 15 gall :-)14 Sep 2005 23:09 GMT2
Just wanted to share. This tank has been a "tank of death" in it's last
two incarnations but right now it is looking great....taking a slow
approach and seeding as necessary. It is heavily planted with driftwood
(why do all my tanks look the same with the exception of the Malawi
Where to get potassium permanganate tablets?14 Sep 2005 21:44 GMT5
Where to get potassium permanganate tablets? I haven't been able to find a
source for potassium permanganate tablets, did a google search and a search
on ebay with only powder/crystal forms found. I'd like to get some in small
tablet form for disinfecting/dipping plants to prevent ...
Saltwater Maracyn safe for freshwater fish?14 Sep 2005 06:59 GMT4
My betta developed popeye the other day and I went to my local pet store to
get some medicine for it.  The only stuff they had was Mardel brand
"Maracyn", but it was for saltwater aquariums.  Does anyone know if this
would still be safe to use in a freshwater aquarium?  I'm ...
water problem14 Sep 2005 00:46 GMT6
I have some problems with my 125 g tank. Ever since I set it up, the
water seems to be kind of cloudy. Even with after few months with fish
and plants, it still has some kind of small particles floating in the
water all the time.
Never cleaned my filter13 Sep 2005 19:09 GMT5
I was wondering, I do weekly water changes (daily at the moment due to
ich on my black neon tetras) at about 25% and my water levels are
great.  However, I've never "cleaned" my filter.  I have an Aquaclear
200 with a sponge, granulated peat and carbon, but I see people
Aloe Vera13 Sep 2005 14:13 GMT2
I googled the group for an answer to this. There was a similar question
in 1999, with no responses.
I was reading with interest about the benefits of Aloe Vera (eg. Stress
Coat), and was wondering whether it was safe to add raw Aloe Vera
Guppies in betta bowls at LFS13 Sep 2005 14:03 GMT5
Speaking of LFS lies and oddities...
I visited a store in town that I haven't been to before and saw the
oddest thing.  Lined up by the door were a set about eight "ivy" bowls -
the little glass bowls with a fluted top that usually house miserable,
Aggressive Platy13 Sep 2005 12:04 GMT2
I have 4 male Platy and 1 male Guppy in a 10 gallon tank.
I have added 1 male Platy last saturday and this one is very aggressive
with other.
I think this is cause of stress in other Platy.
Glass inner lid *on* water surface???13 Sep 2005 08:02 GMT13
My daughter decided recently that is wasn't fair for 'Dad' to have to
maintain her 10G tank and the fish would probably be better in a
bigger tank.
So, last night we took the fish (2 clown loaches, 2 pink (/) catfish
Mollies12 Sep 2005 19:21 GMT2
I have 4 mollies (2 black and 2 silver lyretail). Two of each gender.
Both females have been pregnant for a little while. The black one has
been pergnant longer. This I know because the silver one gave birth
not long after I got her (I still have two fry left). Anyway, the
Recommended sizes of power filters.12 Sep 2005 16:33 GMT4
I stopped by the local Petco tonight. They're expanding their aquatics
department and had display samples of many types of power filters with charts
of the stats and manufacturers recommendations for each type of filter. I
took some notes as this issue came up a couple of days ...
Eclipse filters clogging up very rapidly...12 Sep 2005 13:36 GMT2
I have a Eclipse 25-gallon tank with two blackfin tetras, about six or
seven danios, and an 8" pleco. No plants other than plastic ones, and a
big piece of driftwood. I had previous algae problems a few months ago,
but they haven't recurred.
Test Results12 Sep 2005 13:01 GMT43
I've bought three different ammonia tests. Crazy, I know. I'm doing a
fishless cycle on a new larger tank that I have bought.
Anyway, I tested my older, smaller tank today and I got three
different results! The test I have had the longest and the one I have
