| I told you I would be back! | 12 Sep 2005 01:20 GMT | 9 |
See subject. I got my new motherboard/cpu/memory combo parts today and installed it with only one hitch - my old video card is either incompatible with this amd duron motherboard (I have seen this condition before on another computer) or it is damaged. Luckily I had an old used but ...

| Brass Tetra Courting Behavior | 12 Sep 2005 00:09 GMT | 2 |
Hi. I noticed yesterday that two of my three brass tetras are doing a kind of dance. They shimmie in front of each other, spread out all their fins, then zoom around the tank side by side in unison. They do this over and over. Sometimes, one them becomes nippy toward the other ...

| ammonia in an empty aquarium. | 11 Sep 2005 21:34 GMT | 4 |
I set up my 20gal (24"12"x16") aquarium and have been running it for a week with no fish. Shortly after I set it up I tested the water and found the ammoina level to be in the low detectable range .5-1ppm. And it has stayed there for the past week. So my question is where did the

| Sizing a tank filter | 11 Sep 2005 16:50 GMT | 7 |
Hi. I was told by two fish stores (one expert store and one big box) that you need to buy a filter that is sized for twice the size of your tank. So if you have a 55 gal tank, you need a filter that is sized for a 110 gal tank. In other words, ignore the recommendations on the ...

| Biggest lies my LFS told me | 11 Sep 2005 13:49 GMT | 42 |
Between all of us, we have probably visited 100s of petshops, perhaps 1000s of times, and overheard comments which made our ears go red. Does anyone have any favourites? I remember overhearing :

| Is my red female betta really a male? | 11 Sep 2005 06:36 GMT | 1 |
After some discussion on this group about my red female possibly being male after she grabbed my blue male's tail and wouldn't let go, I decided to post some links to pictures of her. She looks a lot like a red male "fighter" type betta I found on a website:

| tank considerations | 11 Sep 2005 01:12 GMT | 4 |
I'm posting this from work using google groups... so if it screws up I plead ignorance because I've never tried posting like this before. Anyways, I posted before about moving to an apartment and getting a new bigger tank, and as I'm getting ready to setup my 55g tank now I notice

| betta fin regrowth speed | 10 Sep 2005 22:51 GMT | 1 |
Just thought I'd share with you all something I noticed about my bettas. After my male got attacked by a fiesty female in the community tank, his tail was pretty well shredded, and substantially shorter, so I separated him - now it has been 3 weeks, and I can only see about 3mm

| baby tetras! | 10 Sep 2005 05:44 GMT | 2 |
Last night at feeding time I saw the darndest thing in my tank - baby fish! I'm not supposed to have any babies, because it's a community tank with plenty of opportunity for eggs and/or fry to be eaten. My tank care could be described as benign neglect; I change some water every ...

| Betta space | 10 Sep 2005 04:59 GMT | 11 |
All this talk of Betta females has me considering a buddy or 2 for my lone male Betta. He seems very peaceful, as I've never seen him flare. But he's only in a 10 gallon tank, so I'm concerned that it would not be enough space for the three of them.

| Salt- how much is enough | 09 Sep 2005 11:59 GMT | 6 |
Hi. I have a 120 litre tank with 1 green severum 1 female betta, 2 bronze corys, 1 bristlenose. Things were going well until I purchased the severum. I was floating it in it's bag in the tank when I realised that things weren't right in there.

| New job at LFS | 09 Sep 2005 07:22 GMT | 14 |
I resently started a job at our local LFS. This is a post retirement job to get me out of the house. Tell me what bugs you about staff at a LFS so I can try to avoid same. I have 30 odd years experiance with aquariums.

| Will plant food increase hardness? | 09 Sep 2005 04:38 GMT | 6 |
I have what would be deemed "very soft" water at home (average of 13ppm). I always use the "blue crystals" to increase hardness when setting up a new tank, or doing water changes. I always use the recommended amount.
