Temperature question08 Oct 2005 11:06 GMT4
I recently set up a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium.  My submerged
thermometer shows a water temp. of 80 degress without the heater even
being plugged in.  Is this too hot for small community fish (like Zebra
Danios) that prefer temperatures in the low-mid 70's?
Filter Recommendations.08 Oct 2005 02:49 GMT2
Hi,I am looking for recommendations on external canister filters.
Currently I have a 200 litre tank with fake plants and around 50
fish ranging in size from 2 4 inch clown loaches to a few neon
tetras. I am running a UGF powered by 2 powerheads operating
adding a airstone? not good for planted tank?07 Oct 2005 13:34 GMT1
Am i right in thinking that adding an airstone/bubble curtain (for visual
affect) would not be beneficial for a planted tank? Tank has co2.

1 Betta
3 emerald cory cats
Noisy pump/filter07 Oct 2005 01:00 GMT2
I have this Aquaclear 20-30 gallon pump. It makes a fairly loud (And
annoying) whirrr sound. Is this normal for these pumps or should I look at
something in particular causing the noise. I have been to a couple of stores
lately and thier tanks seem to be silent. If they were making ...
Sick Betta07 Oct 2005 00:59 GMT4
My Betta is not looking too good...he is hanging around the heater or
lying on the gravel or balancing on a leaf of his one remaining plant.
He has now stopped eating. He will occassionally take a swim around but
not like his normal behaviour of coming to greet me everytime I go ...
Planted tank substrate07 Oct 2005 00:51 GMT4
Current tank has standard aquarium gravel (mixed community, 26 Gal, 1w/gal)
Having a clean out, upgrading light to 3w/gal and considering the substrate.
From what I now understand, standard gravel isnt that suitable for a planted
tank, however I want something that is fairly easy ...
Addition to Community Tank?06 Oct 2005 22:42 GMT14
I have a 25 gal community tank.  Currently, I have 5 zebra danios, 4 phantom
tetras and 1 pl*co.   I'd like to add 1 or 2 larger fish ... would this be
too many?  I did have a dwarf blue gourami for about 4 months but he died
yesterday :(
Odd neon tetra death?05 Oct 2005 21:57 GMT18
Checked the tank this morning to find only four neon tetras instead
of the five we put in yesterday. Eventually found the missing tetra,
stuck to the side of the filter - just to the plastic housing.
When I took the tetra out, it looked as though something had taken a
Some more questions05 Oct 2005 21:35 GMT9
Some may recall I posted last week, bought a 20 gallon tank and dont know
jack (Except what Ive learned so far and mostly from here). Have some more
questions.
I got the Ph and acidity levels in the tank to normal for tropical fish.

Tetras and shoaling05 Oct 2005 01:17 GMT15
How many tetras are needed to allow them to shoal?
Will a mixture of different kinds - eg neons, head-and-taillight,
glowlight, cardinal - shoal together, or do I need to choose one kind
and stick with it?
Expected  percentage loss of newly bought fish05 Oct 2005 00:26 GMT13
I just want to take a straw poll of what everyone's expected losses
would be when buying new fish....I know if we lived in an ideal world it
would be zero but we have to factor in the stress of travel, new
location, different water parameters, disease etc....
Airstones?05 Oct 2005 00:25 GMT8
I've asked in two different LFS (see? I'm even getting the lingo!
LOL) and got two different answers, so I thought, why not ask on rafm
and see how many more different answers I can get ;-)
Is it beneficial to the fish to have an airstone in the tank? Is it
