PH question15 Nov 2005 03:44 GMT14
My 125 g tank has 7.2 Ph level, which is not really good for the
discus. I'm tring very hard to keep it about bit under 7.0. Every time
I add some Ph down, it shows ok for a day. Next day, it goes up again.
I had a small amount of peat in my filter system and it did not really
My aquarium observations and experiences15 Nov 2005 03:35 GMT3
Thought I'd take the time to jot down a few thoughts, observations,
experiences and conclusions for posterity. In the last couple years
I've learned a lot about my aquarium. I suppose I'm still learning,
and by no means an expert, so feel free to ignore my ramblings or
plants for salty livebearers14 Nov 2005 22:49 GMT3
In another thread, there is discussion suggesting that livebearers
really need slightly salty to brackish water conditions. Does anyone
know what plants, if any, are compatible such conditions? Thanks.

Last night i read that brine shrimp stop laying eggs and are livebarers
over 70f. So my question is would it be hard to culture them in a 5 gal
tank keept at about 75f, also what kinds off food do they take? is it
cheaper to culture or buy frozen($6can)? and how long does it take ...
Yoyo loaches14 Nov 2005 13:50 GMT2
I was at the LFS today - needed to buy supplies and am keeping an eye
out for Yoyos to join the solitary one in my son's tank....found some
and apart from the new lad in the shop not having a clue what I was on
about - tortured the manager for a good 15 mins trying to catch them ...

TDS at the LFS14 Nov 2005 01:19 GMT6
Has anyone measured TDS of the water at the LFS ?
I've measured the water at two of the local places, taking the measurement on
samples of water when taking home new fish. In each case there was only a 10-15
minute delay from purchase to measurement, and TDS does not change much ...
lifespan of aquarium14 Nov 2005 01:16 GMT9
I have a 55 gallon aquarium that I have owned for about 20 years.
Recently the center brace on the top frame broke.  The glass
was bowed out but none of the seams leaked.  I put a clamp on the
aquarium to hold the glass in until I get a new top frame.
Snail Control Issue13 Nov 2005 23:18 GMT11
I've been down this road a couple of times now. Presenting problem is an
infestation of snails in two of my tanks. I've had snails before, but these
little b@st@rds are driving me bonkers. Don't know the species, but they are
tiny (1/4 inch maximum) cornucopia shelled critters. ...

I had the oddest thing happen to my guppy tank.  I goofed and exposed them
to water from a friend's guppy tank after a show last weekend.

Hi All - Doing a water change this morning I noticed that the water was
pink! The only changes I made in the last week are:
New plants.
Reduced PO4 from 2.5 to <0.25 ( I've done this by not leaving cucumber in
Urgent: dying molly13 Nov 2005 16:10 GMT4
I've just found our male sailfin molly floating amongst the plants in
the tank. He was on his back, and I initially thought he was dead.
However by the time I'd fetched the net to remove him, he'd started
to try to flip over, and his gills were moving. I moved him out from
Damaged tail13 Nov 2005 12:17 GMT6
One of my weather loaches, Juniper, was seriously ill with an
internal bacterial infection six months ago. She pulled through, but
contracted a secondary finrot infection. Fortunately, the damage caused
by this was minor, and it was fairly easily treated. However, ever ...
