| Jobes 13-4-5 too high re: phosphorous? | 31 Jan 2006 17:40 GMT | 15 |
I've read about Jobes plant spikes, the one's with phosphorus ratio of 2 for ferns and palms. The only one's I've found locally so far have a ratio of 4, Jobe's spikes for houseplants: 13-4-5. I have not tried them, am wondering if there might be too much phosphorous, but need

I've been considering having a go at a biological filter/water feature using nutrient hungry plants or mussels in a resin rapid leading into the main pond. I was wondering if anyone had particular thoughts or opinions on this? I've seen it done at a pond store & it looks ...

| More ADFs for my remaining ADF? | 31 Jan 2006 04:09 GMT | 1 |
Well, after ongoing long-term attrition, my remaining ADF is all by hisself. Now I have to decide if he's better off by hisself, or if I should get him more ADFs to hang out with? Are there "territory" issues introducing ADFs into a tank with existing ADFs?

| TetraCichlid Food... | 31 Jan 2006 03:12 GMT | 8 |
I bought this food last night at Wally Mart so that I could further deversify my Piranha's diet. They seem to love the stuff and are quite aggressive towards it. The feeding instructions say that the fish should be fed 2-3 times daily as much as they can eat in a few minutes. ...

My friend at the local fish store just gave me 12 very grungy ten gallon aquariums. Two of them I gave to the cab driver who helped me get them home to my small 'studio' apartment. He will be coming back later on tonight to talk to me about him getting his very first fish, how to ...

| Waking the fishes | 30 Jan 2006 19:42 GMT | 9 |
One thing that I really love is watching the fish wake up at lights on. So try to find the time whenever possible to watch them. I find it totally fascinating the differences in behaviour across species and tanks and was wondering if it is peculiar to my fish or if others

| Mixing biotopes avian-aquatic | 30 Jan 2006 18:50 GMT | 15 |
This probably best belongs in a bird ng, but I don't know any so perhaps there are some birders here. Instead of a closed aquarium canopy, what if a metal screened cage (a bird cage) were fitted on top of an open aquarium. This would keep the fish from jumping out. Power wires ...

| Stand ideas for Gill's new 130g | 30 Jan 2006 15:27 GMT | 5 |
So Gill has this 130g tank and glass cover sitting on the floor until the SO builds a stand and they figure out what they will do for lighting. I wouldn't mind having that problem :o). As long as you're building the stand from scratch, here are some ideas.

we are doing some serious rearrangement of furniture, and one thing that will have to move is my 37gal tank. I know I'm supposed to empty the tank completely before moving it... but the tank is heavily planted, lots of fast-moving loaches and

A scientist a built a large Algae 'reactor' for reducing C02 gases from power plants. The large (at least 2') acrylic tubes were in the shape of a triangle, with the hypotenuse facing the sun. He said they could reduce C02 emissions by 40% and use any excess Algae to produce ...
