Smell of nitrites19 Feb 2006 15:50 GMT28
The dead fish thread reminded me of something.  I can smell high
nitrites as soon as I walk into a room. That's how I knew the water was
probably fine in the tank with the lost guppy before I even tested it.
I always know when the nitrites appear in a cycling tank, and I know
Odd Creature19 Feb 2006 11:48 GMT3
I was just sitting outside vegging out watching my pond at work IAfter a
while I noticed something very odd, it looked like a twig was moving along
under water, against the current, waving up & down as if the current was
moving in the opposite direction. After watching this for a ...

or one of my tanks does, anyway.  Must be the free living kind,
there's nothing else in there for them to feed on.  I suspect they
came in with some plants.
I've been thinking about what to do about them, or maybe just leave

Eheim 2028 leaks18 Feb 2006 17:31 GMT3
My Eheim filter has started leaking recently.  It's four years old, and
has been in use constantly all that time.
It's fine as long as it's running, but when unplugged, it starts
leaking.  I think from under the head.  Today I there was a power
Whisper Tetratec 50018 Feb 2006 16:14 GMT25
Well, the big brown truck found its way to my house this morning and
delivered my new Tetratec 500 filter. I couldn't imagine what these
things were, reading the descriptions and claims, I just had to try
one. I got the biggest, 500 gph, rated for 100 gallons, and I've

1 gallon tank18 Feb 2006 14:09 GMT22
Hello,  my daughter recieved a goldfish in a one gallon tank.  This
started my interest and we have just moved him into a 55g with 2
buddies and another to go in when the ammonia spike drops and I can see
that he is healthy.  The 1 gallon tank had a little 15 watt bulb for
Aquaclear Powerhead Quick Filter18 Feb 2006 12:47 GMT5
Yeah, I bought one. Looked like a neat quick cleaner upper. The
powerhead is an 802 or 70, they've changed numbers somewhere along the
way. Instructions and pictures are nearly worthless. When I finally
figured out how to put it together and which way to point the yellow
Planaria17 Feb 2006 20:51 GMT3
What is the best way of ridding a tank of planaria. The tank is currentl
housing an amazon sword plant covered in angelfish eggs and I cant tear it
down until they hatch, if the planaria dont get them first.
Thanks
Corys and tank depth17 Feb 2006 16:40 GMT5
Had a friend who is fairly knowledgeable about fish tell me he'd seen
somewhere that corys don't like deeper tanks.  Deeper being anything
over a foot or so.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?  I'd like to put some in a 20H and/or a
Parrot Cichlid17 Feb 2006 10:23 GMT4
A woman I chanced to meet today regarding her giving me her cat
mentioned that she has a 55 gallon aquarium Oh yeah? Me too! Oh
really! Maybe you can help me. (uh oh, here it comes) I was lucky
enough to buy one of the last parrot fish when I lived in Virginia
A bang or a whimper?17 Feb 2006 01:13 GMT6
CF bulb expiry that is.
I was just wondering if Compact Fluorescent bulbs generally fade out of
existence or go out with a pop? I was watching the TV on the computer when
the speakers started making snapping sounds. Great, the computer has a
worm ID: followup to "medicating asymptomatic fish" 16 Feb 2006 22:12 GMT10
Some of you may recall I posted before under the headline "Stance on
medicating asymptomatic fish?" (http://tinyurl.com/cxhrn). I am the original
poster, using a different usenet client, so forgive me if my ID looks
different.  The problem was three cory deaths and I was ...
white worms, micro worm...-please16 Feb 2006 07:48 GMT3
Hi everybody...
I have one big request... I would like to start my own white worms (or
other similar) culture but here in Poland where I live it is very hard to
buy these worms... (so called "mission impossible")... So, I would be very
