Proper water inlet level?12 Feb 2006 05:27 GMT4
Is there a "best" level for the water inlet to an aquarium?
Specifically, does it matter whether the inlet is above or below the
water level.?  Could you please tell me the pros and cons, (if any)?
(For simplicity, please assume that all filtration (both mechanical

Discus Buffer11 Feb 2006 01:22 GMT1
Has anyone used this product? It claims to lower PH and soft water at
the same time. I'm using peat to soft my water and lower PH. If I can
use this product, it willl be much easier. I have to treat my water
for more than 6 hours to soft it and lower the ph to about 7.2
small gravel10 Feb 2006 17:41 GMT1
Just wanted to say thanks to the poster who suggested "traction sand"
for coarse sand/small gravel.
Home Depot calls it "tube sand" but it's the same thing.  Sixty pounds
for $2.49 or so.  A local auto store wanted $4.99.  Either way it's not
Brownish stuff10 Feb 2006 00:40 GMT1
Hello, so sorry to ask yet another question.  My tank has almost
finished cycling.  Have been saying that for a week now.  I have some
greek parthanon type ornaments in my tank and noticed a brown stain
developing on the top of them.  I just thought that it was the reaction
Brine Shrimp09 Feb 2006 21:41 GMT1
I am having a go at hatching some brine shrimp for angel fish fry and wonder
how strong should the air circulating be . Is the theory the stronger the
better true. I am using one of those continuous brine shrimp hatchers that
stays in the aquarium and the shrimp can swim out of ...
Reduced newsgroup activity for me....09 Feb 2006 20:30 GMT2
Hi All! A lot of you know me as an avid poster on the aquaria groups. I am
just writing this to say that my participation in the newsgroups is going to
be reduced drastically - but only because I am going to be working hard
doing some landscaping (big time) and it will take me all ...
Power outage - what to do?09 Feb 2006 14:08 GMT16
We just had a power outage. Happens every now and then, mostly just for a
few minutes.
But this time the power wasn't back up even after 3 hours and I decided that
I had to to something for my fish live support system (aka filter and air
Stance on medicating asymptomatic fish?09 Feb 2006 10:56 GMT19
I know this is a controversial topic....
Had three cories die in a three month span (one before Thanksgiving,
one before Christmas, one about a week ago) after a bizarre
indetermined illness. Symptoms: lethargy, possible swim bladder problem

Ammonia test kits, how long does it take?08 Feb 2006 14:12 GMT11
I got an ammonia test kit using drops and it takes 20 minutes to get results.
Do all ammonia drop tests take this long? Are there shorter ones?
I think mine is Hagen brand. It was a Canadian company.
Thanks.
Veiltail Angel fin growth08 Feb 2006 13:20 GMT4
I've just noticed on my three gold veiltail angels what looks like small
round growths towards the end of the filaments.
The ray of the fin comes most of the way to the end, then this little
ball-like thing then continues to the end.
Vacation and Water change08 Feb 2006 07:26 GMT16
I'm scheduled for a 5 weeks vacation in May. I wonder what are the
water change options I have for my discus. Having someone over to
change water for me is not an option. There are so many things can go
wrong and I just don't see it happen.
