Newbie here - Water change question08 Feb 2006 05:22 GMT12
Hi, new to the group, so Hello.
I am 4 weeks into cycling my 55g.  I have minimal readings for ammonia
and nitrites and 20ppm for Nitrates so hoping that I nearing the end of
this process.  I have 3 fish in there who are thriving and having the
A general thanks to the group.08 Feb 2006 04:40 GMT4
Its been 3 months now and the tank is doing great. Every single thing I have
learned about keeping fish I learned from the people in this group. My
initial startup "Put water in tank, put fish in water, watch fish die, buy
more fish" obviously wasnt the correct way to go about ...
snailers to eat MTS?08 Feb 2006 02:45 GMT5
Hau kolas..
I've been battling a snail infestation of epic proportions in a heavily planted 65 gallon tank..Malaysian Trumpet snails and
2 other snail species that I never have really identified. Recently introduced a trio (3" size) of clown loaches, which have
eradicated the 2 ...
fishless cycling - pH problem?07 Feb 2006 21:56 GMT12
I'm new to this newsgroup, so please redirect me if this question is in
the wrong place.
I'm trying to cycle my new aquarium using Ammonia.  Things seem to be
on track except that the pH is climbing to very high levels (pH 8.4
Am i doing it right?07 Feb 2006 17:47 GMT15
My girlfriend bought me a 100 litre tank for my birthday a few weeks ago.  I
filled it with gravel a few fake plants and water and left the filter and
heater running for a few days.
I then went to my local fish shop and bought some small fish recommended by
tiger barb with bizarre problems...07 Feb 2006 07:56 GMT10
I have  a lone tiger barb that has two afflictions (don't know if
they're related):
* its anal area is incredibly swollen, and a bit of its internal tissue
is protruding out. It was white for a few days, and now it's darker
More power to you papa red and sean!07 Feb 2006 03:15 GMT6
I am looking forward to hearing more about how papa red's tanks turn out and
how sean's piranhas do in their huge tank. I only have 2 silver dollars but
if I correctly read my older book they are relatively closely related to
piranhas but are herbivorous, and seem to share the same ...
silverfish (Lepisma saccharina)07 Feb 2006 01:59 GMT12
Hi..
This morning I caught some silverfish in our cellar and
my fish ate them. Does anyone know how to multiply
silverfish in an easy and effective way?

Just can't help to share this. I know people don't like posting
pictures here. Sorry about that. This one is only 19k.
This will be the only time I post picture here. So, don't jump all
over me.
How to clear up greenish water in fishtank06 Feb 2006 18:12 GMT4
I am currently housesitting for someone who has a 50 gallon fishtank.
Just before they left they said they changed part of the fishtank water
as well as cleaned the fishtank.  At this time the tank turned a strong
green color where you can barely see the fish.  As well, this is a ...
Good day fellow Fish Geeks06 Feb 2006 17:39 GMT6
Well a little about myself. I have had a freshwater aquarium for
several years. Probablly for a 20 years off and on. I am purly a
hobbist and just love to have fish in my living space. The tank social
structure is just awesome. Once I bought my first canaster filter there
Anyone know the Costco selling pond kit's website?05 Feb 2006 22:06 GMT2
I saw a nice pond kit in the shape of "OO" or "8" in Costco, It starts
with Sun...us.com, I forgot the middle portion of it.  Anyone know the
website? I think its just under $200. This model is not listed in the
costco website. If anyone installed it, can you please post your
Profile substrate does lower pH05 Feb 2006 19:58 GMT2
I regret I didn't make this a more controlled test, as I didn't expect
the Profile to make much difference, but the numbers are conclusive.  For
those unfamiliar with Profile, this is a reddish sand sold for irrigation
control on golf courses.  It has some useful properties for ...
TetraCichlid Pellets...03 Feb 2006 23:09 GMT8
I have been using this for about a week now and I am actually noticing a
marked difference in the color of my Piranhas.  I have never used processed
food before and now I am feeding this to the fish every-other-day.  They now
show a distinct color on each part of the body.  Black ...
Going on holiday03 Feb 2006 18:51 GMT30
I have a tank with 10 pristella tetras in it (approx 1" long small
tetras).  Water quality etc is ok.  There are no plants.  A backup
airpump-driven filter complements the main filter which needs manual
restarting after a blackout.
