Red Eye Tetra Mouth Stuck Open07 May 2006 08:41 GMT11
I have 3 red eye tetras that have been together for quite awhile.  I used
them to cycle a tank and they are healthy and have grown considerably since
I got them.  I just noticed that one of them is swimming around with his
mouth open wide all the time and apparently cannot close ...
Shiners07 May 2006 08:27 GMT1
A couple of days ago I was in LFS and asked the fish aisle manager what
they had that was good for outdoors.  He took me over to a tank with
some "red shiners" (Notropis lutrensis).  I remembered Flash talking
about shiners and I wonder if these are the same ones?  I bought four.
sinking betta sick07 May 2006 02:34 GMT44
Till this past week Mr. red betta was fine, I noticed this week he has been
sitting in his silk tree a lot, however I moved his tank last week and he
sulks when I move him so I was not surprised...but when I went to clean his
tank today I noticed he was straight up and down, ...
Help ID Angelfish disease06 May 2006 22:34 GMT13
I have 3 approximately 6 month old angelfish of which one has developed
small holes in its fins right at the base where they join with the
body.  The two holes on the bottom fin showed up 3 days ago 4/25, the
one on the top sometime in the last 9 hours while I was working.  The
happy hardy platies06 May 2006 22:09 GMT9
There's been some discussion on this board of declining health and
quality of today's livebearers. They're alleged to be bred in very salty
water, etc...
I'm happy to report that I purchased 9 red platies in early January on a
About my old, 10-gal aquarium......06 May 2006 21:57 GMT4
Once I get my 55-gal aquarium going I'd like to completely "disassemble"
and clean the old aquarium. I've learned from you folks that I have way
too much gravel in there, and I think that's contributing to the muck that
accumulates on the bottom of the aquarium. So my primary ...
New Angel06 May 2006 17:00 GMT6
Yeah, here I go again. I've been doing a lot of reading and talking to
a few people, and I'm ready to go again. I firmly believe that my
first bunch of young angels died because of water chemistry problems.
My fault. The second batch were quite weakened from having just days
Another Fat Betta Story-06 May 2006 16:44 GMT9
I took delivery of my female betta at the first of the month..she was
egg-laden at the time.  Since, she and her mate have coupled, she has
released eggs...but she still has that swollen belly.  Her appetite is
ferocious to say the least.
Asian swamp eel06 May 2006 11:42 GMT10
It looks like something out of a horror movie. No one's sure how the
asian swamp eel came to Florida, but University of Florida researchers
say the bony fish is now firmly established in tampa. They live in
shallow fresh water like ditches or canals. During droughts, the eels

(I began this thread over on rec.ponds, but I realized that many
readers of rafm don't visit rec ponds. This is such an interesting
topic to me, the story here is only partially complete, so I'm
dragging the topic over to rafm so we can all get a look and add our 2
Transportation of Fish06 May 2006 11:22 GMT6
How long can a fish survive in the bag from a fish store? I am in a
situation where I want to get a fish, but it would have to be in the
bag 5 hours before starting the acclimation process. If I am getting
multiple fish, should I ask that they be bagged separate?
Cascade Filter Spraybar or Spout?06 May 2006 08:09 GMT3
Got my new 72gal Bowfront tank set up today.  Bought it as a package deal,
tank, wood stand, gravel, heater, light and Cascade Canister Filter.  I
presently have it set up with the spraybar just under the water and the
setup is very quiet but it is difficult to see the water ...
Sponge Filters for Cycling New Tank06 May 2006 08:06 GMT3
First of all, thanks to the people who responded to my recent post
about a disease problem I was having in one of my tanks.  My question
regarding sponge filters is this:  How quickly do they establish a new
aquarium?  I have read that the tank can be biologically ready for a
