If I want to change the color of my gravel, will I alter the water chemistry? Are there a lot of good things (water wise) going on under the gravel? Just wondering if I will face a bloom of some kind if I take it out all

| Water Changes/Gravel cleaning | 19 Jul 2003 04:35 GMT | 1 |
I'm waiting for my new tank to cycle and so far it has zero ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Should I postpone doing a water change until one of those goes above zero? Will doing a 20%+ partial water change/gravel cleaning slow down the cycling process if its done tomorrow?

| sick fish? | 19 Jul 2003 04:02 GMT | 1 |
I have a small aquarium with 3 goldfish/shebunkins - in the last few days one of the fish has exhibited abnormal behaviour. Most of the time he sits at the bottom of the tank, moving very little, but now and then he swims to the top of the tank, poking his head above water before ...

| gunk in the sand, need advice | 18 Jul 2003 15:24 GMT | 15 |
I made the switch from gravel to sand and thought that my tank was cleaner, but when I started sifting through the sand today there was a lot of gunk in the sand. I have a relatively think layer of sand and the main reason for the sand is for the plants.

| Filter | 18 Jul 2003 14:15 GMT | 4 |
I have a twenty gallon tank, and I want to start cycling it. I want a filter that will aerate the tank so I can at least initially avoid air stones. I am going to keep two or three goldfish. This will be my first aquarium setup, so I need a filter that is fairly low maintenance. ...

| Problem Fin Rot | 17 Jul 2003 16:22 GMT | 4 |
I've tried practically everything from the puregold website to treat a 4" ranchu for fins that keep getting fin rot after having successfully treated in a hospital tank. My current tank setup isn't much. I have a 20 gallon bare-bottom glass tank with no tank decorations, a 6 inch ...

Does anybody know if goldfish are supposed to turn white? We've had a pond for 3 years and recently the fish have been changing colour. They don't seem to be ill or anything so is this a natural occurrence ?

| New tank | 17 Jul 2003 00:50 GMT | 1 |
. I just set up my tank, hooray. I have two gold fish that I have introduced to the tank so as to cycle the tank faster. This was a recommendation from the pet store. I have a test kit, I have to keep them alive while the tank cycles. So far the water is clear, and Shakespeare ...

| Single White Spot | 15 Jul 2003 15:47 GMT | 2 |
My 6" goldfish has developed a single white spot (about 2mm diameter) on his nose. Initially it appeared as if the skin on the spot was flaking away and after treatment with anti fungus / finrot medication the affected area seemed to improve, but now it's flared up again. The area ...

| Cleaning a second-hand tank | 15 Jul 2003 02:58 GMT | 7 |
My neighbour kindly gave me a 20 gallong tank he didn't want any more. I could use it for my goldfish who are outgrowing their 10 gallon tank. However, it has a bad smell in it, like some kind of solvent (it's been in his basement for a while). I filled it with water and
