How much light for goldfish?31 Oct 2003 23:55 GMT5
I keep hearing that the goldfish should get 8 hours of light a day. Is
that an exact figure, or a minimum? I turn on their lights when I get
up, and turn them off when I go to bed, so they get about 14-16 hours
of bright light a day. Is that too much? My fish SEEM happy enough,

To gravel or not to gravel31 Oct 2003 12:07 GMT5
My tank has been set-up for about a month now, and things are going
well.  Tests say the water is good, but there is still a bit of
cloudiness to the water (you can see it only when the lights are on),
but that is clearing.

there and wash it?

Juwel Filter29 Oct 2003 13:35 GMT6
I have a juwel filter that came with my Rio 240litre tank.
Looking at it running, it doesn't seem to be very powerful.
Can anyone suggest a decent filter (I am not looking at UGF).
I thnk Mel suggested one, but can't find the details.

Sound muffled hood28 Oct 2003 23:27 GMT3
The waterfall sound from my penguin filters is driving my wife nuts.  Does
anyone have any knowledge of a sound-muffling hood or know how to make a
sound muffling hood?  It would have to fit a standard 30"x12" 29g tank and
somehow enclose the two penguin filters (a 330 and mini).   ...
Metal ornaments?28 Oct 2003 06:12 GMT1
I have some plastic stalked and silk leaved plants in my tank.  The stalks
are reinforced with wire, and in one or two places I can see rust forming
under the surface.  Should I toss these things?  How dangerous is the rust
to the fish?

We have otocinclus catfish in the tank with our goldfish.
Recently, our oto's have been dying.  Their breathing seems
extremely heavy.  Their color gets pale and they clamp their
fins.

Headgrowth27 Oct 2003 16:16 GMT1
When  I went to the LFS, I had decided to buy an oranda - looking at
their limited choice, I decided on a tiny, very active little
chocolate oranda.  All the rest had already begun their headgrowth,
but I really wanted to see it happen gradually.
