is there a THRILL in keeping goldfish?16 Oct 2003 05:18 GMT12
If you search for thrill in rec.aquaria you get some interesting
results. The thrill of owning rare breeds, the thrill of keeping
difficult varieties, the thrill of feeding live bait to carnivorous
fish, the thrill of your first cichlid breeding... I'd really like to
Introducing Snails16 Oct 2003 00:00 GMT4
I'd like to introduce an apple snail into my tank to eat all the
dead plant life. How do I go about doing so, do I need to quarantine
if so how long for, do I need to treat with anything?
Will my Moors eat it?

it.

what is this?14 Oct 2003 15:59 GMT9
My husband bought me  a new lionhead last weekend and he is currently in
quarantine. A couple of days ago he started developing little white spots (2
or 3 mms wide and about 2 mm high in little round blobs) on his head which I
thought at first was new headgrowth. The next day though ...
Algae eaters14 Oct 2003 03:46 GMT14
Okay, I know this question has been asked 100s [if not 1000s] of times, but is
there a goldfish-compatible algae eater that actually takes care of algae?
Thanks :D
Big fish with small fish?13 Oct 2003 09:42 GMT2
Was wondering if it's okay to buy a small (.5"+/-) black moor to put in with my
oranda (4") and fantail (3"). Would the other two push it around and not let it
get to the food or not?
Oh, and they're in a 30 gallon tank.
question about trickle filters...12 Oct 2003 22:00 GMT4
I've recently 'upgraded' my tank to include a trickle filter design.
Basically, two pvc tubes take water in from just below the water level and
carry it down to the sump below. It's then pumped back up to the other side
of the tank. My question is, how do I make the input less ...
mixing tetras11 Oct 2003 21:29 GMT2
I have a 10 gal. tank set up, cycled etc., and put in 3 serpae tetras, 3 red
eye tetra, 2 albino cories.  Question is I read somewhere ???  that one
should not put several different  kinds of tetras together.  I was going to
add some cardinals and now I wonder.  All imput would be ...
Oranda problems10 Oct 2003 20:17 GMT2
I have recently acquired a Oranda and it has been nothing but problems
yet....
First it started getting a fungus looking growth on its headgrowth - I
treated this with a general anti-fungal medication and it went away which I
Where to test the water10 Oct 2003 10:38 GMT1
I have had a few problems with my goldfish since getting them which all seem
to be caused by water quality issues. They currently seem to be exhibiting
all the symptoms of acidosis/alkalosis (see
http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/puregold/disease/symptom/byname.htm#ACIDOSIS).
Filter Questions10 Oct 2003 01:51 GMT5
Currently we have a 10 gallon tank with two gf (I know, too small, but we set
it up as newbies.  We are looking to upgrade to a 30gal soon).  Anyway, we have
a ryukin that is probably around 2.5 or 3 inches long, and a black moor that is
about an inch or so.  They have a fine ...
Bored Goldfish ?09 Oct 2003 12:02 GMT3
Just wondered what others do to entertain their fish. My has taken to
swiming upside down these days. That or it will prop itself under a log and
just hang there. I am sure it is just to irratate me. Otherwise its in good

Bloated and pine coning Oranda09 Oct 2003 10:53 GMT4
Hoover, large calico oranda, has not been acting right for a couple of
weeks. For several days he will lay upside down in the plants in the tank.
(60 gallon with 10G in sump, 2 large oranda)  We go to put food in and out
her comes and eats. Last night he was not eating and we ...
Need advice on setting up new tank09 Oct 2003 05:25 GMT9
So, I've got a tank with 4 fish in it, and they're doing
okay. However, the commons have started getting aggressive during
dinner time, and they're pushing the veiltails around (though the
veiltails are getting enough food just fine). So, we moved up the date
