Well...
With the average outside temperature dropping significantly below 60 deg
F it was time to move Hans, my tub garden red/white comet inside. (We
lost Frans (white/red) to a raccoon several weeks ago.)
Cloudy water and sand substrate07 Nov 2003 14:59 GMT4
Kept fish for years but this one has me stumped. 65 gallon with 10-15
additional gallons in a sump. Pump in the sump sends water through a
canister filter. Ammonia and Nitrites show 0 (new test kit too). Two large
Oranda's and two or three large java ferns in the tank. Bare bottom.
Question Re: Salt and Argulus07 Nov 2003 14:53 GMT3
I had cause to return a fish to the petshop today, where my rather wonderful
salesman informed me that the little bug on the tail was in fact and
Argulus.  He removed it for me, and everything is now looking much more
positive!

me 110% for suggesting goldies need water changed every week.
Newb Question-- sort of05 Nov 2003 23:29 GMT6
Having had many aquariums over the last thirty-plus years, mostly S.American
cichlids, I'm now presented with a situation about which I don't know
damall. My daughter (6yoa) wants her very own aquarium. Yippee! BUT she
wants goldfish. I know next to nothing about goldfish, and so ...

Spawning or attacking?05 Nov 2003 19:31 GMT4
I have three (five) fish.  Only the three matter in this scenaro.
The Oranda will go over the the goldfish, and headbutt him.  Then the
goldfish will give a bit of a butt to the shubunkin under the tail,
the goldfish and the shubunkin will have a bit of a wrestle, then the

PLEASE HELP: Hole in gill cover04 Nov 2003 20:00 GMT5
Yikes! I haven't seen this before. My 7" butterfly panda has developed
a hole in her left side gill cover. The area surrounding it is red.
She has been placed in a 10 gal. aerated hospital tank with fresh
water and 1 tsp. of salt per gal.
PH+ Using Pool Products in fish tanKs?04 Nov 2003 19:52 GMT3
I saw a nice 5Kg container of Sodium Bicarbonate at the pool store
yesterday.
I'm wondering if I can safely use pool store bought products like this in my
fish tank.
Salt Question04 Nov 2003 19:45 GMT1

Salt carton recommends 1 tablespoon/5gal as a general tonic.
1 teaspon of salt per 5gal works out to what % solution?
Also, how do i measure Salinity in freshwater tanks (0.01-0.5%) range?

After a week in a small tank it was moved into the main tank, with a light.
It was only then I noticed one of its eyes was larger than the other.
It kind of pointed to it having pop eye.  Treated with ...
