Have a moor and a oranda, each about 3" long, in a well filtered 50gal tank
with a couple of live plants and a couple of rocks. Light is on maybe 12
hours a day. Water parameters are ok, temp is ok, fish are (touch wood) well
and healthy but within a week of cleaning the sides of ...
goldfish septicimia - advice please!21 Dec 2003 18:21 GMT9
My Goldfish, who has recently succumbed to the boils that affected my other
fish (see previous post....the fish got better but now has them back) is
now in an antibiotic treated tank.  Today he has started clamping his fins
to his body and sitting at the bottom of the tank.  The ...
Using marbles and colored stones for bottom21 Dec 2003 16:50 GMT2
I am trying to use marbles and large colored stones for the bottom. Anyone have
experience with this? Does waste material get stuck under the stones? Is
siphoning a problem with these ?

Do these work successfully - can the food go stale?
No dorsal fin?20 Dec 2003 14:59 GMT3
We saw some thing strange at one of the local Thai resturants - severa of
the goldfish (and obviously these were gold fish) had no dorsal fin - not
even a vestige!
Poor things looks like it was hard to swim. Are these a "breed"?
Update and questions about treatment20 Dec 2003 05:49 GMT1
You all were right in your suspicions about the nitrates being the
problem. I read in a goldfish book that though nitrates are generally
not toxic to fish, fancy goldfish, especially Pearlscales, are
adversely affected by them, and that high nitrate levels can make them
re: fairfield polyester batting18 Dec 2003 16:38 GMT1
Am confused which polyester batting to get - I checked the fairfield web site
and they have:
" Fairfield produces several 100% polyester battings, a 100% cotton batting and
an 80%/20% polyester/cotton blended batting.
goldfish size18 Dec 2003 13:55 GMT3
I know that goldfish grow bigger depending on size of tank and other
fish yet can there size be limited if they spend a good few years in
smaller tanks, i.e does it limit the growth later even if transferred
to a bigger tank?
Baytril in the UK18 Dec 2003 06:40 GMT2
I'm currently paying about £4.05 for .20 cc of baytril.  I suspect the
vet is charging me some obscene rate, because only they can prescribe
it.  Anyone suggest an alternative antibiotic as good which is either
cheaper or a place I can buy baytril cheap?

buying fish online17 Dec 2003 16:50 GMT3
My LFS's don't carry any exotic goldfish (real black moors, ranchus,
pearlscales, etc.). Has anyone here bought fish online? The only site I'm aware
of is goldfishconnection.com but there are surely others.
Related question...would they ship to NY in winter or should I wait till ...
Exercising Fish?17 Dec 2003 07:53 GMT7
My comet seems to spend hours of delight, swimming from one side of the
tank to the other.  He touches one side with his mouth, turns, and swims
back.
Occasionally he stops.  Swims to the castle, nibbles, then does a few
pearlscale keeps getting stuck17 Dec 2003 04:29 GMT1
I have a new pearlscale that seems to have a knack for getting stuck.  First time was behind the undergravel tube, second time beneath the bubble curtain, and third time behind the heater.  Is there anything wrong with him?

How long in the bag13 Dec 2003 23:46 GMT35
Bought a small feeder goldfish at the petstore, but was in transit for 5
hours.
Is 5 hours too long to stay in a bag? The fish is about 1" long, the bag had
about 4 cups of water.
