| Very new to all of this | 28 Feb 2004 19:34 GMT | 4 |
Last weekend, we bought a large bay shaped tank which holds 150 litres of water. It has an under gravel filter with two "bubble chambers" (don't know the correct terminology) -- one on either side at the rear of the tank. In the

| Mystery crash | 28 Feb 2004 03:32 GMT | 29 |
Yesterday I noticed a previously active and precocious white+yellow Oranda was feeling punk. I measured some basic chemistry and was astounded to see +0.5 nitrites and > 80ppm nitrates, but ammonia still zeroish. This was 6 days since my last PWC (according to

| What size tank do I have? | 25 Feb 2004 21:13 GMT | 3 |
Here's a softball question: I bought a second hand tank that's 48"x18"x12". The guy that had it thought it was 55g. I come up with just under 45g. It seems odd to me that he would off by 10g. Not that it matters a

| Black Moor Bullies | 23 Feb 2004 17:22 GMT | 2 |
Prior to this weekend I had 2 orandas (each about 6in) and one black moor (also about 6in). I added a new, small black moor and now the two of them are picking on the weaker oranda - he's stuck at the top, but otherwise healthy. I've never seen this behavior before. Why is this ...

| feeding, feeding | 23 Feb 2004 14:20 GMT | 8 |
I feed my Oranda once per day, in the morning, and they are happy to see me -- when I turn on the light they rush to the surface. They eat for a good five minutes or so, then spend a big part of the day searching for leftover tidbits they might have missed, kissing the sides of the ...

| Farewell Gandalf | 23 Feb 2004 01:57 GMT | 11 |
Gandalf died this morning. She was a large comet, with the most beautiful tail. She was called Gandalf because she was a survivor - she survived all our ignorance, and thing like the dogs playing in her murky tank - I didn't even know she was in there - which was becasue the kids ...

| Bubble on Gills | 22 Feb 2004 16:54 GMT | 2 |
I have a large Oranda (at least I think he is, large orange head). He has what looks like a blister on the inside of one of his gills. It's swollen on the inside, and a bubble has formed that sticks out of the gill cavity. I see no signs of blood in it, and it looks totally clear ...

| RIP Fishy Feb. 9, 2004 | 22 Feb 2004 04:11 GMT | 2 |
Here's to my longtime pet goldfish I bought from an Albertson's market (simply called "Fishy") who went to the Rainbow Bridge February 09, 2004 after a 2 week battle with dropsy. Despite being permanently disabled by "swimbladder" problems a few years ago. I took special care of ...
