Protein Skimmers on FW tanks with goldfish???11 Feb 2004 04:38 GMT3
I was wondering if anybody but me found the idea of using a protein skimmer
in a gold fish / koi tank with a heavy planted sump compelling?
I have a 240 litres tank with a external eheim canister filter with
thermostat with input / output to main tank.
Help -- skinny disease?10 Feb 2004 16:59 GMT1
My goldfish who is battling dropsy seems to be thinning (starting to see
through and wear away) over the gill covers and wen area.  Is this a
bacterial problem, parasite problem or because she isn't eating much?
I've checked all water parameters (ammonia, pH, nitrite) and they ...
comet really acting weird10 Feb 2004 16:57 GMT3
my comet has started flipping out today. He will act fine, swim around
normally and then he starts bobbing and weaving.......meaning he will stay
still, but while doing this will weave from side to side......going from
being normal, to a laying down position....think of it this way ...
Cause for finrot10 Feb 2004 16:54 GMT4
My tank is by and large healthy but every once in awhile the fish (one or
more) get a bout of fin rot or split fins.  I then treat it with antibiotics
and the tank is fine for a while.  I would rather treat the cause, but I
don't know what it is.  Please give me any suggestions of ...
Filter sponge medium replacement schedule....10 Feb 2004 16:51 GMT6
Greetings....
I have a 10-gallon tank with an AquaClear minifilter system plus an
undergravel filter. The aquarium is long established and my two
goldfish seem happy. I gave up using the charcoal filter packets quite
Ok, I'm hooked 10 Feb 2004 11:03 GMT6
Never had fish as a child except a series of "Goldie"s won from fairs, that
lived in small bowls for the few weeks the poor things could make it.  I
always thought it was a matter of willpower for those that lived longest
(and I guess it was; I wasn't doing them any favors.)  In two ...
Feeding advice for diet induced swimbladder bouyancy problems10 Feb 2004 10:05 GMT10
I just joined this newgroup and I know that this is probably a very old
subject. But I have a small fantail in a small 15L aquarium with heating and
a small hanging Eheim filter. He developed the swim bladder disease and I
research it and found out that I had fed him too much pellet ...
Epsoms and other questions09 Feb 2004 00:27 GMT2
Well, my Pearlscale that has been sick for the last two months is
still alive. I hope she recovers as completely as possible. After
doing the tub to tub method for a month, I just recently moved her to
her own 10g. Now, though I have a few questions. First, I haven't
New aquarium question08 Feb 2004 17:07 GMT4
I bought a 10 gallon aquarium 3 weeks ago, and four 6month old
goldfish. As probably anyone who has no clue about aquaria (and doesnt read
first:), I filled
it with tap water, added some plants, dumped the fish inside and fed them.
Salts08 Feb 2004 16:57 GMT7
Can anyone give me some advice about using salts in coldwater goldfish
tanks?  I am keen to avoid any kind of disease and have read advice in
emergencies of adding salts to the water.  I just wondered if anyone uses
salts as a norm to keep water disease free.  If so, any tips on ...
Is a Garden Hose safe?  08 Feb 2004 04:11 GMT15
I use a 3/4" rubber reinforced flexible garden hose to fill up my tanks.
Do you think the rubber lining may be toxic to the fish? I heard that
some of these hoses are not safe to drink from. Has anyone done any
research?  Saw this nice FDA approved medical grade drinking water
Oranda having trouble staying off tank bottom08 Feb 2004 04:10 GMT5
My red and black oranda for the past week or so is usually floating
leisurely near the surface in the mornings.  Today this oranda is
laying on the bottom, and must make an effort to get off the bottom.
I checked Ingrid's puregold site, but don't find this symptomology
Weird fish05 Feb 2004 16:51 GMT5
After taking more notice of the fish close up than usual since my gold fish
started turning black, I've noticed that my betta fish has a white lump on
its mouth, thinking that it could be a fungal disease i went to the guy that
sells the fish and asked him, he said thats what it is ...
Floating Oranda05 Feb 2004 15:09 GMT15
I'm new here.  I have two darling Red Orandas that I've become quite
attached to.  My husband is the person with the fish knowledge, but he has
Koi and Guppies.
One of my Orandas seems to float at the top of the tank quite a bit,

I have a 10 gallon tank with one gold fish in, approx 5" long. Nothing else,

On 24th of October I put a Fluval 2 filter in, set up to venturi air in with
the outlet which has been running continuously ever since. After 12 days
