I set up a Juwel Rio 400ltr on friday.
I used about 40% of our pond water and added 6 plants fom the pond.
I did a 20% water change on tuesday.
The latest test kit readings are PH 7.0
Cleaning gravel30 Sep 2004 13:59 GMT2
I was really shocked to find how much waste had built up in the gravel at
the bottom of the tank.  Whenever I change water I use the syphon to suck up
the fish poo, and I thought I was doing a decent job.  But setting up a new
tank I transferred some of the gravel from the old ...

I have a tank that previously had fish in it that had fungus, I was
wondering if anyone had any tips about cleaning the tank so I could
start over with new fish.
poor old Percy30 Sep 2004 13:16 GMT12
One of my fantails, Big Fat Percy, has been suffering with swim bladder
problems and I have read up on how to treat it, tried the treatments but all
to no avail.  He is obviously suffering and while he's my favourite little
chap I think it might be kindest to put him out of his ...
Veiltail looks a bit hurt - advice?30 Sep 2004 13:10 GMT5
So I noticed that one of my veiltails looked a bit lethargic. Because
of the size of their tank (50G) and the fact that there are only two
of them, I've only been doing water changes every 2 weeks. Apparently
I slipped a little, and the nitrate levels went up to between 20 and
High Ammonia -- Fish are dying -- Please Help30 Sep 2004 06:38 GMT8
I recently set up my fish tank about 3 weeks ago.  All of a sudden, 3
days ago fishes started dying in the tank due to high level of
ammonia.  I have to change water 2 times a day now just to bring down
the ammonia.  I just started using Ammo-Rock.  I got the 10Lb. bag.
Pecking Order29 Sep 2004 15:11 GMT3
Do Goldfish have a social hierarchy/Scooling?
I recently moved five GF from a 55 to a 75. I had cycled the new filter in
the old tank for a few weeks and moved a bit of gravel to the new tank. But
I wanted to be sure I did not have any ammonia/nitrate spikes, so I moved
GF Hurricane Survival29 Sep 2004 00:41 GMT4
Oh what fun, forst Frances, now it looks like we are getting Jean visiting
us. With Frances we lost power for almost a week. I have a small battery
supply with a power inverter that I used to power my tank filter pump so as
to get some air circulating in the tank for my Goldfish.
Prepping an old tank for new fish28 Sep 2004 13:32 GMT5
A few months ago, all three of my friend's goldfish mysteriously died.
Their water levels were ok, and they all went within a few days of
each other. My friend considers himself a very responsible pet owner
and took it pretty hard, and gave up on fish.
severe red streaks, pop eye, and tail rot...27 Sep 2004 05:04 GMT4
I sure hope someone can help me with this because I don't know what else
to do for my sick goldfish. This fish is about 4 years old and has been
living with this condition for nearly a year now. This fish has big red
(blood?) streaks going from it's body all the way down to the ...
Spiraling Subunkin26 Sep 2004 19:48 GMT1
When SO got home with our latest two shubunkins from the garden centre, I
noticed one looked not quite normal.
This one apparently was picked by a member of staff.
He (or she, they're only 2 inches young) seemed a bit mishappen and

down in the same manner and can foul the water... is this true?
What is an acceptable level of amonia ?23 Sep 2004 15:18 GMT10
Thanks for the previous replies.
The 180 litre tank is all set up and working nicely. The fish are all happy.
I have checked the amonia, nitrate, nitrite, ph.
the amonia after one week is now 0.75 and I have changed 25% of the water.
Black Moor turned gold and dead23 Sep 2004 13:29 GMT4
Having successfully kept my first Black Moor alive and well for a month it
was time to add another to the tank.
Not wishing to introduce unforeseen problems with the new fish I decided to
quarantine for a few days.
