| Sand as a substrate for Goldfish | 25 Oct 2004 14:40 GMT | 25 |
I've just come back from my LFS and the guy said somethings about sand that made sense. He said that since it's so dense, all the crap stays on the surface of the sand rather than making it's way into it. That was you only have to vacuum the surface rather than poking into the ...

| long tanks | 25 Oct 2004 01:04 GMT | 1 |
shallow tanks were used to increase surface to volume ratio before air pumps were widely available. they are still used for breeding/growing on tanks.... and for Tosakins. but good aeration with an air pump makes high tanks fine for GF. Ingrid

OK, I wimped out, didn't go with the Potassium Permanganate. I did not want to wipe out the Biofilter, as some had suggested. So I picked up some Pimafix and Melafix for the boys. Only the one large fish has a noticeable fungal infection (fuzzy white spot on his snout, but the ...

| Goldfish Don't Need Oxygen | 22 Oct 2004 19:41 GMT | 21 |
More accurately, they can live without it for a while. An article in the current Science News (Oct. 2, 2004) talks about research done on the crucian carp. The article mentions goldfish near the end. They have a form of metabolism they can call on to survive

| RE: Koi Questions | 22 Oct 2004 04:11 GMT | 14 |
I have a fairly well established large pond, its about 3-4 feet deep, everywhere, about 6-8 feet across and about 12 feet long. I use a bio filter consisting of about 1/3 ton of gravel. NH3 level is immesurable. I take rainwater off the roof of my house and overflow the pond ...
