Any advice on the best way to clean airstones? We live in an area with very hard water and airstones get blocked relatively quickly with limescale. Is it OK to use vinegar - perhaps soak them in it overnight? Most of the household chemicals for limescale removal are very strong ...

in the years of keeping fish including goldfish, i have experienced this problem over n over again in goldfish that is. whenever they have swimbladder difficulties, u know i do the usual:feed peas,starve it for 3 days,strict pea diet,keep in shallow water,salt bath,etc.. But

I've had a pond for several years with half a dozen Goldfish/Shubunkin and a couple of Orfe. Each year I see lots of small fry in the shallows but that's all I ever see, presumably they become tasty morsels as they never make it through to the following year.

Thanks VERY much to the two people that responded to my "should I starve my betta" thread. :-) Thanks to the very timely advice from "nippyfish", he is pretty much back to normal now. I also did a water change in the tank for him.
