Expensive Java Moss + Goldfish = Goldfish30 Jun 2005 05:36 GMT2
I finally broke down and bought the outrageously expensive Java Moss on a
Lava rock from the LFS. It's from Belgium you know. :) The Boys destroyed
about 1/3 of the plant overnight. They also pulled all the Java Fern out of
the pot I had it planted in temporarily. Time to see if ...
Amquel - how much to put in29 Jun 2005 22:02 GMT3
Ok, here is a dumb question for you.  The direction on amquel says 1
tsp per 10 gallon water.  I have a 60 gallon tank and if I replace 30
gallons for water change, do I add 3 tsp for 30 gallons being replaced
or full 6 tsp again for 60 gallons?  I've been adding 6 tsp each time
does goldfish like company?29 Jun 2005 15:02 GMT13
I have a solitary goldfish, possibly a comet. I had him for about 6 years
now, and he is about 7 inches long, plus the tail. He lives in a 30 gal.
tank, with all the amenities a goldfish can possibly need - and he appears
sad.
Tap water29 Jun 2005 09:42 GMT6
I've recently had frequently to top up the pond with tap water.
I collect rain from the roof to top up the pond, but there has
been none for months (it seems).  I don't like it, because I get
a lot more algae growth whenI have to do that.  (Having said
Help from the Goldfish Enthusiasts29 Jun 2005 00:09 GMT3
There is this thing that the local mall is doing for kids, they are going to
give out 100 goldfish each with a 1 gallon (give or take- medium critter
keeper ) container.  This is animal cruelty.  Comet goldfish need 20 gallons
per fish.  Its like keeping a dog in the cabinet ...
Death of all goldfish over a week28 Jun 2005 19:27 GMT15
We are a secondary school, with a tank of coldwater fish in our lobby.
They have always been happy and healthy with no problems, over the
weekend of the 30th april we lost 4 of our goldfish and one of our
loaches - they were just floating on the surface on the tuesday morning.

How many days can goldfish go without food?27 Jun 2005 19:40 GMT6
I typically feed my two goldfish once a day. They are about 1.5" long
each.
I will be going out of town at the end of the summer and I'm wondering
how long I can leave them without feeding them?
what to do with culled fish?26 Jun 2005 08:58 GMT6
i have tons of excellent goldfish books, lots of experts knowledgbe. but
no one tells, what they do with young fish that is culled. when breeding
goldfish there are thousands of worthlesse fish with deformations in
body and fins or with wrong colors. the books write about "culling
Air pump off at night?25 Jun 2005 19:25 GMT6
I have a fairly small tank (40cm x 20cm x 20cm) with for the moment only
one goldfish. I had more but they died probably because there was not
enough oxygen in the water. So I bought an airpump (2000cc, the smallest
I could find). I have it installed and now there surely is ...
plants in a goldfish tank24 Jun 2005 03:18 GMT3
My tank looks decidedly bare(the one piece of 'furniture' my fish has is a
small holow castle, which he sleeps in msot nights).
I was thinking about gettign some form of plant to brighten the tank up. I
don't know about live plants as there's the water chemsirty to watch for
Can I use depth charges to fight goldfish-overpopulation ???24 Jun 2005 00:08 GMT3
They are multiplying like crazy and I must do something.
Do you think depth charges will work?
My goldfish appear famished22 Jun 2005 03:18 GMT1
All they seem to do is forage. They're forever pecking at the
walls of the pool in the stringy algae, at the struts of the
"Safapond" structure** suspended in the water, and on the
underside of the lily pads.  I'm not sure what it is they're
brown algae20 Jun 2005 10:20 GMT5
I have several goldfish tanks and each one has developed what I presume is
brown algae on the sides of the tanks and on some of the artificial plants I
have in them.
I change water about every two weeks because all the tanks are overstocked.
feeding silkworms to fish16 Jun 2005 02:56 GMT2
Does anyone out there feed their gold fish silkworms?
I tried it and they go crazy over them.
I get mine from www.silkwormshop.com and am always happy with their
service. It took me awhile to find a store that doesn't have a minimum
