How to measure the length of a fish?27 Sep 2005 16:35 GMT3
Just how do people measure the length of a fish? From the mouth to the tip
of the tail? The tail of a goldfish can vary from a fifth to a half of its
body and weigh only a fraction of its body weight. Is there a more reliable
way to measure fish?

I bought my 5 goldfish about a year ago.  They have all gotten large and
beautiful (they were 10 cent feeders when I got them).  One of them has
always been a beautiful bright orange color with only a few white markings
and white lips.  Over the past few weeks, he has changed to ...

Dogs, mirrors, self awareness...16 Sep 2005 17:09 GMT25
From what little I've seen about it so far, it looks
to me like some people actually believe dogs are not
aware of themselves simply because they don't appear
to recognise their reflection in a mirror. To me that only

tested with the Ammonia kit and it was reading around 400. YIKES. So I did a

I used to work in a restaurant that had an outside pond. We were the
"Guardians of the fish" and loved to be in that position as we really cared
for them.
In time, we just moved the water by tapping the surface and the fish came to
Bobbling Fantail14 Sep 2005 07:03 GMT6
We have a fantail goldfish which has had a problem with what I believe to be
it's equilibrium.  The poor fish cannot swim straight.  Most times it swims
head down and tail up, but it also tends to waggle sideways and upside down.
I have tried giving it the mashed peas (which it ...
Surpise on returning from holiday12 Sep 2005 00:02 GMT1
I have baby fish in the pond.  From six adults (no idea what mix
of sexes I have, but clearly I do have a mix) I reckon I've seen
