Had two goldfish for four years without problems.  One died recently, bought
a small replacement (about 1") from Petco on Monday.  Placed newcomer in
separate tank.
Monday - Thursday  new fish was OK, although not terribly perky, but

What should i sue to clean an old tank?
the tank in question was free, i just had to pick it up, it's about 10
gallon and i figure would make a nice enough hospital tank should i need
it. it's a bit mucky (largely dust, few watermarks).

It seems that everytime I change the water in the tank (I remove about 1/3
to half), after about 5 mins, the goldfish gulp at the surface as if the
water has a lack of oxygen.
I thought the 'new' water contained lots of oxygen (minus a few chemicals).

We are planning to move far away soon and have to find a new owner for our
10" healthy goldfish. He is 7 yrs old and currently lives in a 10 gallon
tank with plenty of room to swim around comfortably.

I noticed my fish were spawning & I rescued a bit of pond weed with some
eggs attached & brought them inside in a one foot tank with some of the pond
water.
A few hatched 2 days ago.
