Help with goldfish illnesses31 Dec 2005 22:39 GMT1
Was wondering if anyone may have any ideas on the mysterious illness that we
have been unable to solve in my boyfriends pond.  I noticed that one of the
fish in the pond has something wrong with his eye. On closer inspection the
eye had gone white and had a fungus growing from it ...
Possible Nitrate solution31 Dec 2005 05:44 GMT8
Hi GF fans,
I'm having another brainstorm, and want to bounce it off of you. My
testing resulted in an amonia spike as well as a Nitrate spike, with
reasonable Nitrite levels. I got both under control with my recent change
Stupid questions re salt dip29 Dec 2005 02:16 GMT10
I understand it's advisable to perform a salt dip for a new fish or
when bringing in from a pond.  Are fancy GF really that heaty that I
can really transport one from the store, dump it in a salt bath, then
dump it straight into a quarantine tank?  Seems awful stressful to me.
Red Pest28 Dec 2005 02:25 GMT3
I've got one fish with what I think is Red Pest. I've treated twice with
ParaGuard (mostly Malachite Green). The effect was fabulous, the red
splotches cleared up almost immediately. But they are back for a third time.
I probably did not continue the first course long enough (2 ...

I have two goldfish in a 3 gallon tank. One, named Gill, has grown HUGE
and will feed on everything in sight. The other one, named Gloria, has
stayed almost the exact same size as when I first got them together
about 4 or 5 months ago. Gloria isn't interested in eating- she never

newbie to goldfish - questions25 Dec 2005 03:11 GMT4
Hi.  I'm Linda.  I've recently become enamored of fancy goldfish.  I
have an empty 30 gallon (US) tank that I hope to put to use soon.
I've been searching all over the net for info on goldfish.  I'm not
new to fishkeeping.  I've had a freshwater tank for 18 months or
Newbie... questions about salt in goldfish tanks.25 Dec 2005 03:09 GMT11
Are there links that discuss the benefits/detriments of salt in
goldfish tanks?
I've read numerous places that goldfish like to have a little salt
in their tanks.  For tropical fish (not goldfish) I've read
Too much air23 Dec 2005 00:22 GMT3
Is it possible to have too much air in a tank? I have a new air pump, but
the water now has lots of tiny bubbles of air floating in it. My fish
haven't moved in yet.

Stupid questions re salt dip20 Dec 2005 18:06 GMT3
I don't like treating non-existant problems.  When I get a new fish, it
goes into a quarantine tank with an airstone and no filter.  I use
frequent water changes.
After a few days, the signs of a parasite will be evident in the water
Got cloudy water? This really works!!20 Dec 2005 07:26 GMT2

Cycling - Lost Patience17 Dec 2005 14:39 GMT15
After three weeks, and I lost count of how many water changes, I finally
gave up on the traditional cycling routine. My poor fish have been suffering
long enough in the Nitrite AND Nitrate rich tank. Made the trip down to a
well supplied aquarium store. The Lady I talked to seemed ...
How do I stop an algae eater from attacking?16 Dec 2005 23:32 GMT7
I've got 7 fantail goldfish in a 55 gal tank along with 3 Albino(Golden)
Algae Eaters. One of the A.E.'s will attack the goldies if they get too
close. I noticed about three of my guys with missing scales one guy has
about a 1/8" patch missing!
Moving goldfish15 Dec 2005 17:54 GMT5
There is a strong chance we're going to be moving from California to
Colorado. I am not 100% sure yet but since there is enough chance I'm doing
my homework now.
My 5 yr old has a pet goldfish he's had for almost 2 years. Not taking him
Anorexic  fish?13 Dec 2005 18:07 GMT2
We have 2 golden barbs in our tank that were bought at the same time. Both
were the same size when we got them but now, 3 months on one has grown huge
and the other doesnt seem to have grown at all, he looks like he's lost
weight and is anorexic. He appears to eat and swim normally ...
