litter box training pigs23 Dec 2003 03:33 GMT2
How does one go about training guinea pigs to use a litter box?  I have been
watching for their favorite spot to "do their business" and was planning on
putting a litter box in that spot in their cage, HOWEVER, their favorite
spot seems to be either in their pigloo or whereever the ...
iceburg lettuce22 Dec 2003 03:50 GMT1
I have heard that feeding pigs ieburg lettuce is bad.
I just read a post that implied to me it' because all the water in it.
There are lttuce heads at my supermarket, that aren't leafy, but
sold by the head which aren't frozen, no water. Does that make these
Pigs abusing vitamins21 Dec 2003 22:39 GMT8
I note that my two girls (~9 months old) like the vitamins (Sunkist 500 mg;
dextrose as 4th listed ingredient) so much that they will eat at least 4 a
day between them.  I don't know if they will eat more because I never give
them more than that.  When I put them in the food dish, ...
Hazel's ultrasound21 Dec 2003 19:00 GMT2
We took Hazel to see the internal medicine specialist this morning.  (This
vet travels up from the US a couple times a month.)  He confirmed that the
hairloss pattern was definitely typical of endocrine-related problems.
After taking a thorough history of Hazel's health issues, he ...
Food21 Dec 2003 11:15 GMT10
People, I'm looking for ideas here please!
We've been owned by Starburst now for a few weeks.  He gets dried guinea pig
food - two different types for variety, and we try him with various fresh
veggie/fruit type stuff trying to find out what he likes or dislikes.
Can guinea pigs die from stupidity?21 Dec 2003 05:34 GMT1
I don't know why I always end up with deranged creatures (my boys for
instance). Now Rupert, the guinea pig who has no clue he is not a
human has come to the conclusion he is really a beaver and has
developed a unhealthy, I'm sure, relationship with our Christmas tree.
Piggie Status Report20 Dec 2003 05:12 GMT12
It's been a busy couple of months with our piggies, since I last posted an
update on the girls in October.
First the sad news -- Ginger passed away on 13 Nov.  She never got back to
100% health after her spay in June, not because of the surgery (which went
Hello dear group from Elisa and Daisy20 Dec 2003 03:11 GMT10
Dearest group,
Sorry I haven't been around as much as I'd like to, but I'm so very busy
moving between homes.
I'll try to catch up on the news as soon as I get my desk back ;-)
Hairy's surgery19 Dec 2003 23:06 GMT6
Well, Hairy had his surgery today - poor guy   :-(
He seems to be doing fine but isn't moving around much yet.
The vet put towels and a cushion in the bottom of his cage and told me to
keep him separated from Hermione for a few days.  I have their cages
Baby surprise!18 Dec 2003 23:52 GMT3
A few weeks ago I bought a new addition to my herd. A little sow named Reece
who reminded me so much of Lila who I had just lost. She has settled in well
and is rooming with my neutered boar Eyebrows. This morning however when I
came home there were 3 in the hutch.. Reece had had a ...
pigloo politics17 Dec 2003 22:06 GMT2
Hi, all - just wondering if anyone's come across this problem.
Since Fern and Weeble have bonded, I've put Fern's pigloo back into
the cage, all washed out, etc. I'd decided to get a second one if they
didn't like sharing, but quite liked the idea of them snuggling in
Happy piggies!16 Dec 2003 12:29 GMT2
Well, it's been 4 days now since Hairy got "fixed".  He and Hermione have
been in seperate quarters since Thursday and neither was very happy about
the arrangement but I was following the vets orders...
So this morning, after checking Hairy to be sure everything looked fine,
Sad news about Toffee16 Dec 2003 08:46 GMT6
Unfortunately this morning my Toffee passed away. She had been at the vet
for the last two days after difficulty with her pregnancy. She seemed fine
and then slipped away. She was being given vit C, antibiotics, fluids and
had had an ultrasound. They were reluctant to operate on her ...
