I cut the quick! Failed as a GP mother!30 Dec 2006 16:49 GMT1
Was cutting claws today and nipped the very end of the quick on one of
the claws. There wasn't even enough blood for one drop, it seemed to
dry before I could even get a tissue thank goodness.
Thing is, I feel so guilty! Poor thing isn't in any pain and seems
Timeron has passed on29 Dec 2006 13:09 GMT4
Today we mourn the loss of one good pig.   Timeron has passed over the
rainbow bridge.   He died early this afternoon.    He was almost 5
years old.
We are waiting to see how his son/cagemate responds to this loss, so
Unhappy Guinea Pig29 Dec 2006 12:21 GMT6
I rescued a pair of GP's about a month ago, and one of them became seriously
ill. Over a period of about 2 weeks we were back and forth to the vets, and
it none of the treatment worked and unfortunately we had to make the
decision to have him put to sleep.
R.I.P Minky29 Dec 2006 08:38 GMT13
My poor little Minky passed away this morning.  She was 6 years old.  She
had been going blind for the past year and had a large cyst forming.  I want
to share my grief but folks at home don't see piggies in the same way as a
dog or a cat, which upsets me even more.  I don't want ...
GP Average Water Intake28 Dec 2006 16:22 GMT4
What is the normal intake of water for an adult GP (who is rather old)
and is also eating dark lettuce and some iceberg lettuce daily and
carrots, plus pellets and timothy hay.  Piglet also gets some other
veggies and fruits.....

Our Piggies Can Tell Time27 Dec 2006 18:20 GMT4
they usually get fed at 7 at night, but lately they have started their
nightly squeak "I'm starving, I'm starving" at around 6. I am convinced
they are trying to beat us into submission to get
their dinner an hour early.
Rocket for Guinea Pigs?27 Dec 2006 00:38 GMT4
Want to take my piglets out for a walk in my garden for a change, or
maybe even let them run around in the garden on a Sunday afternoon(I
have asked my gardener, the last time he put chemical on my lawn was 2
years ago so should be safe for the piglets), I do have a growing area
The ultimate GP Christmas present?26 Dec 2006 19:36 GMT1
I wonder what my pigs would choose (if they could) for a Christmas present?
My suggestions are (and I am just guessing)
1. a large carrot
2. a turbo-charged drinker with fruit juice
bigger cage20 Dec 2006 21:38 GMT7
hey my guinea pig, marble, is about 3 and 1/2 years old, and im
thinking about getting her a new cage. She is still living in the very
first one we got her which seems fairly small, especially when we put
in her little hut at night. So how big should her cage be? right now

I wonder if anybody can help me.
I own an adolescent male guinea pig. I was playing with him one day and
i found a sticky substance on the very back of his body, i didnt think

Mites?  How can the pigs be scratching this spot?20 Dec 2006 00:04 GMT4
Ok.  I am a father of an eight year old with two guinea pigs and from
reading many posts in this forum, fairly convinced that one of our pigs
has mites.  Open wounds, hair loss, etc...
My confusion is by the placement of the wounds, they are in the center,
Just Redid My Two Cages with Coroplast - WOW17 Dec 2006 00:08 GMT3
for the past few years we have been using bits of cardboard and small
pieces of coroplast for our two cages.
I am very slow in trying something new....very very slow.
each 4x8 sheet cost $22 at Tap Plastics and about 1 hour later, each
Life expectancy of guinea pigs14 Dec 2006 13:22 GMT4
I was just wondering if anyone would share with me how long their
guinea pigs lived.  I have 8 of them and they are all turning 4 years
old and still going strong.  I lost my first one in April to kidney
failure and it was devastating.  He had always had a lot of health
Gave Up 4 of My 5 Piggies <sigh>13 Dec 2006 01:13 GMT2
I kept Piglet the elderly one, but took the other ones, including the
baby I raised to the Wildlife Care Center in Ft. Lauderdale (FL).  Just
could not handle the expense of taking care of all of them.
I told them that the "baby" needed to be on Carefresh as she (that was
