New hamster28 Jul 2003 04:57 GMT5
I recently (in the last week) got the family a new hamster, and he is acting
wierd, I know they are nocturnal and so I don't expect him to go wild during
the day, but after the first couple of nights he seems to sleep more than
play. I have seen him eat and drink so he at least ...
Fern is....drumroll....A BOY!27 Jul 2003 19:40 GMT3
At a "well hammy" visit with our vet today, he confirmed what I began
to suspect at mid-week...Fern is a boy!  His emerging scent glands and
a somewhat different back end-shape from Alice were my clues.  No
major cushions yet. We still love him to bits!!  All 47 grams of him

The pet shop where I bought my Syrian, last December `02,
seems to keep males & females together, and until they're sold.
They refuse to listen to reason.
And it wasn't until now that it dawned on me that my hamster

Couldn't have all of those empty cages...26 Jul 2003 06:10 GMT2
After losing Abby this week, we were left with only Edith and Esther, the
new Robos. I was missing having a Syrian in the house. I prepared a tank and
went off to the pet store. The result? Bert! He is an adorable Syrian,
supposedly 7 weeks old. He has the cloring of a golden (which ...

Pelota sleeps 23 hours a day !25 Jul 2003 16:21 GMT4
If you recall I rescued Pelota from almost certain "death by crow" when we
found him in our back yard about a week ago now. The thing is, he never
comes out of his hideaway unless we bring him out. OK, I saw him twice come
out on his own, once to drink water and get food and ...

not wet tail, not UTI;  bladder stones!25 Jul 2003 04:28 GMT12
one night, a couple of months ago, my campbell's dwarf (fido) had a
wet bottom.  of course, my first fears were about wet tail, but none
of the other symptoms matched.  she was still very active, still ate,
still drank, and her poops were firm.
I need advice.....how do I get my Hamster to warm up to me?25 Jul 2003 00:21 GMT3
I just bought a new hamster and I have a feeling the pet store neglected it and
never gave it attention. Now, it rarely comes to be and I struggle to keep it
still and from biting me when I hold it. Anyone have any advice on how I can
warm it up to me?

The situation at the West Los Angeles Shelter is now desperate. There are close
to 30 hamsters, most dwarves and they are apparently all very stressed and
Abby is gone24 Jul 2003 07:55 GMT3
We noticed Abigail was becoming lethargic and just not herself. We adopted
her from a pet store after she was retired from breeding. They told us she
was 8 months old, but we suspected she was older. She was supposed to be 14
months old now, but she was acting much older. We took ...
