We are looking for a hamster for my daughter. I've had them on and off for
at least 25 yrs and gotten them mostly at pet stores. I would rather get a
rescue pet this time. My question is.. are there any breeds that are better
with kids (she's 4)? and are there any breeds that live ...

I briefly held Maxine for a few seconds today.  She has not been held yet
since coming home from the pet store.  I have petted her a few times each
day, which she liked, but I was waiting for her to "want" to be held.  She
did not climb onto my hand, but she didn't resist at all ...

sadly , i lost my new albino dwarf hamster due to breaking her back ...
