RIP elder ham30 Nov 2003 20:11 GMT5
Our russian hamster died this morning. He had been with us for five long
happy years. There was no warning, and although we know he'd had a long life
we are devastated. He enjoyed listening to Pink and we think he lived long
enough to hear the new album which came out last week.
RIP Missy - 08/21/02 to 11/18/0329 Nov 2003 14:24 GMT7
Last night we lost our one and only syrian hamster.  A teddy bear variety
whose name was Missy.
She was such a skittish little thing when we got her, afraid of everything
and everyone.  It took us months to get her tame enough to come to us,

Chocolate toxic to hams?27 Nov 2003 21:15 GMT2
Here's a question that's popped into my head.
It's known, for example, that chocolate is toxic for dogs, and that one should
not feed it to Rover (although try telling him it's bad for him). Yet, I
wonder: Is chocolate harmful to hams?
The kids sleep over at grandma's....unexpectedly.....26 Nov 2003 08:41 GMT6
Well, it seems my landlord is having the apartment building inspected for
some reason or another, and since we aren't supposed to have pets, let alone
14 hamsters and a mouse, tonight the kids will all be sleeping over at my
moms so they arent here tomorrow morning when the ...

OK...Genghis chirps & Fuffernutter has now started chirping BACK to him even
though they are on opposite sides of the room!!!!!
They don't seem stressed at all though & It's cute so I'm not going to worry
about it...
Dwarves vs. Syrians25 Nov 2003 08:54 GMT7
We had our syrian recently die (see other thread).  We're still going to
get another hamster though.  But still debating on 1 syrian or 2 dwarves.
The syrians are bigger & seem easier to handle (we know about only getting
1, so thats why it's 1 not 2 otherwise if they COULD live ...
Very Very Strange!25 Nov 2003 08:47 GMT5
In the last few days Mr. Jangles (Russian) my wee man has developed a very
strange wheezing noise in and out, this is whilst he is up and about. When
he is tucked up in  his bed, there is no from the breathing. Now he has just
started to make a sneezing noise as well. Has anyone got ...
hamster and allergies25 Nov 2003 08:35 GMT1
I have skin allergies (and atopia) to house dust (mites), some foods and a
little bit to cats. I am thinking about buying a hamster. I will be in the
same room as the hamster for most of the day (it would be in a cage mostly).
Is it advisable to buy one, or  would a hamster likely ...
Cinnimon Sickness?25 Nov 2003 01:45 GMT11
Well, Cinnimon hasn't been herself since the aftermath of the babies.
Before I had her very tame and she would come out of her cage alot. Now she
doesnt attempt ot come out of her cage. I think she might be sick because... I

Hamster death question (related to/recovery from surgery)24 Nov 2003 20:15 GMT5
We recently took our hamster (a male syrian) in to the vet to have a growth
removed from his back (it had been under the skin then surfaced & split the
skin open & then surfaced more & opened up into a coin sized inside-out
tissue sitting on top of his back).  The surgery went well ...
Barney goes home!23 Nov 2003 08:06 GMT2
Well, Barney, one of the babies here went to his forever home on Thursday with
a fellow hamster rescuer.
He's settled in beautifully.  He fell asleep on her within the first 30 minutes
of being there.  He's also groomed her, woken up from his nap, toddled across

We have a new litle girl Syrian hamster we named Shady Lady.
She is black with long hair. Already she climbs in my hand and sits up to
look
at her world from on high. She is very trusting. She is on the small side
Long time, no post!22 Nov 2003 22:05 GMT5
It's been so long since I've posted on this group.  It's great to
still see the familiar faces such as TheHamsterLog, Jane, pieman,
MiHoSwEeti, and Per.  And of course, it's nice to see new faces too.
I hope I get to know you newbies well.  Just an update on what's going
Antisocial Hamster - Help!22 Nov 2003 16:11 GMT12
We just bought our Syrian hamster on Sunday, and she was really active (she
chewed her way out of one of the boxes she was brought home in!) when we got
her home, and went in her exercise ball while we got her cage ready (which
is a Habitrail Space Station)
