Thank you all for your help.
I took Squirrel to the vet today and he said that she was suffering
from heart failuer.  There was not much he could do by the time I got
her to him.  She died at 1pm today.  Thank you all for your kind

Today we lost my little friend Lucky.
I came home from work to find him on top of his house apparently sleeping,
(not unusual), but he made no movement at all when I started poking in his
tank to check on things.  A gentle touch confirmed my fear, he had passed

My daughter's friend was going to take our hammies to her house and take
care of them when we go on a week's vacation but, as luck would have it,

Anybody got any tips for taming a biter? We have two new additions to
the horde, and while one of them nibbles but never really bites, the
other one really does try to bite. He's broken skin on at least one
occasion and since then it's difficult to trust him!

I have come to the conclusion that I should find more suitable homes for my
5 remaining hamsters. I used to work at home and they used to get hours and

1) would a hamster be a good pet for a 9 year old?
2) is there any breed of hamster that would allow for 2 to live together
 or is that a big no-no?

I have a documentary about snakes on DVD.  There's lots of hissing
going on.  When I first played it, my hamster frooze at every hiss.
Not surprising, but it was interesting to see instinct at work.   I
haven't watched the DVD again, for the sake of my hamster.
