Thank you all for your help.
I took Squirrel to the vet today and he said that she was suffering
from heart failuer.  There was not much he could do by the time I got
her to him.  She died at 1pm today.  Thank you all for your kind
RIP Lucky - 12/31/03 to 08/04/0405 Aug 2004 22:09 GMT6
Today we lost my little friend Lucky.
I came home from work to find him on top of his house apparently sleeping,
(not unusual), but he made no movement at all when I started poking in his
tank to check on things.  A gentle touch confirmed my fear, he had passed

A month ago we had to say goodbye to our lovely hamster Daisy who developed

Tonight we said goodnight to Wilf  who went to sleep and never woke up.

Going on vacation.05 Aug 2004 15:03 GMT4
My daughter's friend was going to take our hammies to her house and take
care of them when we go on a week's vacation but, as luck would have it,
they are going away the same week we are... ;-(.  Sooooo, I talked my
friend, who will be visiting my cat, into looking after them as ...
Vicious Little Ham05 Aug 2004 11:15 GMT9
Anybody got any tips for taming a biter? We have two new additions to
the horde, and while one of them nibbles but never really bites, the
other one really does try to bite. He's broken skin on at least one
occasion and since then it's difficult to trust him!
Difficult decision...05 Aug 2004 04:12 GMT2
I have come to the conclusion that I should find more suitable homes for my
5 remaining hamsters. I used to work at home and they used to get hours and
hours of attention. I started working outside the house a few months ago and
they no longer get the attention they deserve. I am ...

Too many losses at the moment.04 Aug 2004 02:53 GMT1
Every time I look at this newsgroup another little furball has been lost.
Too everyone who has lost their hamster I hope you can treasure your time
with them. To those who have sick hamsters give them all the love you can
and your hamsters will be in my thoughts.
RIP Tony - 04/25/03 to 07/27/0403 Aug 2004 01:13 GMT5
My very first hamster, Tony, passed away on the 27th at about 18 months
of age; quite suddenly, actually, he was only sick the night before, and
died
the next day... I think it was wettail, but it came on too suddenly for me
new family member02 Aug 2004 19:05 GMT5
We went and bought another baby this morning. I have pretty well talked Paul
out of the whole breeding idea.
He is a dwarf that is mostly white. He has a rectangle of brown on his face
and about five tiny spots on his body. Little bit on the fuzzy side. I know
Responsible Hammy Kid02 Aug 2004 09:35 GMT5
My 8 year old Daughter has kept mice quite respoosibly for 2 years now
(since she was 6)... with a little of my help.
Now she is looking at Hamsters and our agreement is she can keep a
hamster(s) but the requirement is that she has to do research, reading,
Hamster as a pet01 Aug 2004 17:55 GMT9
Some questions:
1) would a hamster be a good pet for a 9 year old?
2) is there any breed of hamster that would allow for 2 to live together
or is that a big no-no?
Snake sound effect freaks out my hamster01 Aug 2004 04:00 GMT1
I have a documentary about snakes on DVD.  There's lots of hissing
going on.  When I first played it, my hamster frooze at every hiss.
Not surprising, but it was interesting to see instinct at work.   I
haven't watched the DVD again, for the sake of my hamster.
