I started my marine aquarium just over one and a half months ago. Being new to the whole game, there was a lot I should have first read up on before being impulsive and just going ahead and doing stuff. I guess I was in too much of a rush to get my first fish in. Ok, so now

I picked up some new corals. My prized SPS died over the past couple of weeks, leaving a giant hole in my tank and in my heart. Here's some pictures of what I got. If you recognize any specifically, please give me the ID. This acropora is very hairy, and has good polyp extension ...

| Water changes | 03 Oct 2003 19:56 GMT | 2 |
Okay, in the past I've typically changed out water 10% to 15% per week to keep nitrates low for my invertebrates and fish, as well as to prepare for my eventual foray into the world of live corals. I've recently set up a plenum, and I've begun to grow algae to help

Up until recently, I've always built shelves for my tanks entirely out of wood. Having only a circular saw and nominal carpentry skills, I'm not looking forward to doing it again but need more tanks. So, what I'm thinking of doing is using cinder blocks to make shelves. I've

| Losing My Hermits | 02 Oct 2003 19:50 GMT | 6 |
Anyone know of compatability issues with scarlet reef hermits and emerald crabs. I've lost about 3 or 4 S.R. Hermits in the last week and I am finding the emerald crabs are always munching on the remains. I'm not saying the

I will be setting up a tank system here in San Francisco, CA, where I will be chilling the water down to emulate local conditions (55-60F) and was curious if there are any message boards, usenet groups, or other internet related web sites about chilled aquaria.

| LR hitcher too good to be true | 02 Oct 2003 17:40 GMT | 1 |
Is it possible that the plump little < 1/8" five-armed white creature is really a starfish? It was scooting around the glass surprisingly fast. I certainly didn't put in the tank, so I assume it came with the rock or sand. I assume you have all seen such stuff and I shouldn't ...
