| Surprising, but true | 29 Oct 2003 09:25 GMT | 24 |
Perhaps I'm wrong and there's another explanation, but I've noticed all my corals respond to time of day rather the tank lights. I thought it might have been a learned reaction, that they could actually anticipate the lights going off, but they have ignored the changes I made ...

| mark question | 29 Oct 2003 08:17 GMT | 3 |
Mark and all of the other experts out there, here is a question: I setup my new 46G tank with LS (live sand 55lbs), live rock 45lbs (another 25lbs on the way) two weeks ago to the day. Today I checked the ammonia levels of the tank and they are at 0ppm. Unfortunately I have not ...

| Lighting question | 29 Oct 2003 06:19 GMT | 4 |
How important is it, in a fish only saltwater tank, to turn the lights on everyday? If important, how long do you suggest having them on everyday? Right now we have them on about 12-13 hours per day...wasn't sure if that was overkill, too much, indifferent? Just curious since when ...

| Reef Tank - Substrate or Not??? | 28 Oct 2003 17:59 GMT | 9 |
I'm in the process of setting up my first reef aquarium and can't decide whether to use a substrate or not. I'm planning a 500 litre tank to mature with 20kgs of live rock, trickle filter/sump system, etc. My supplier recommends a coral sand substrate, however I've read that using

| The "New" reef philosophy. | 28 Oct 2003 07:24 GMT | 20 |
Read an interesting article from a link posted here about what the author felt was the main problem with reef aquaria-namely that people try to keep lifeforms from different systems together in one tank. His point is that it is impossible to properly keep corals, fish, etc. that

| Is it safe to use water polishing filter on a reef tank? | 27 Oct 2003 20:38 GMT | 9 |
I have setup a reef tank two months ago and I am very new to salt water tanks. I have kept fresh water tanks and fish for over 15 years. My question is, is it safe to use a water polishing filter like System 1 Pressure Filter or some sort of other diotom filter in a reef tank?

| Question from newbie! | 27 Oct 2003 19:43 GMT | 18 |
We have a 70 gallon tank that has been set up as a freshwater tank for the past 6 years. A week ago yesterday we changed it over to a saltwater tank, so we are very new at this. We have added 4 damsels to the tank 5 days ago to help cycle it through, but our Ammonia and Nitrates ...

| Bristle Worms | 27 Oct 2003 13:37 GMT | 2 |
I see conflicting thoughts in regard to bristle worms so I figured that I would get some more opinions here. I found at least (2) bristle worms in my tank when I was peeking in on it with a flashlight last night. They are both about 3 inches long. The tank is mainly fish but does ...
