| 250l reef with canister filter only... A bad idea? | 27 Oct 2003 10:41 GMT | 12 |
I have a quick question. How feasible would a 250l setup be with only a Fluval 404, a couple of small powerheads and lots of live rock? Is all the other paraphernalia such as skimmers absolutely necessary? Essentially all I want is a couple of small fish, and some of the easier ...

| Brown Diatoms? | 27 Oct 2003 03:18 GMT | 7 |
I've had an ongoing, never ending battle with red slime in my 46gal FOWLR. About one week after my last water change, I'm now seeing a very orange/brown crop all over my crushed coral. I suspect brown diatoms as I saw those early on when I started the tank.

| How I was stupid............. | 27 Oct 2003 00:28 GMT | 6 |
Stupid me decided that when I did my water change, I needed to clean my protein skimmer, since it was a bit nasty looking. So I clean it, put it back on tank, then I realize I need to hurry to get my kids from school. So I started it up, not noticing all the microbubbles going

| HELP - SICK CLOWN DYING | 26 Oct 2003 06:06 GMT | 18 |
I'm desperate - My clown fish is past the point of no return. I can't stand seeing him suffer anymore. He's currently lying on his size on a rock and grasping for air. I am to the point that he would be better off if I could take him out of his misery. I've ready ways to do it ...

| Anemonies Everywhere | 24 Oct 2003 19:57 GMT | 16 |
Some of you may have read the post my wife put up a month and a half ago about our anemone splitting. I would just like to report they are both doing very well and are actually bigger in size than before they split. Our Maroon Clown on the other hand is a very over tasked fish, ...

| Food grade buckets | 24 Oct 2003 14:28 GMT | 1 |
I've got my hands on some food grade buckets from a cafeteria, rich with pickle smell, which I understand will never totally go away. Is there any danger in using these to mix saltwater in, for my tanks, or any other such aquarium maintenance use (like curing live rock or

| salt on LR | 24 Oct 2003 13:52 GMT | 1 |
I did a partial water change in my tank because the ammonia was present. I did mix the new water well enough I guess because now I can see salt on my live rock. Is this ok or do I need to do something? Presently I 10lbs. live rock, two snails, two hermit crabs.

| Setups for Quiet systems | 23 Oct 2003 21:06 GMT | 3 |
I'm thinking about returning to the hobby after 10 years away, I used to keep marines in a self made system which had a protein skimmer and a overflow to a homemade trickle filter, It was a fish only system .. One angel, 2 tangs, + smaller fish etc. I did recall that it was quite

| External filter | 23 Oct 2003 21:06 GMT | 3 |
I've deceided to buy a Juwel Vision 260 and use it for a FOWLR system, I wonder if I should buy one of those Eheim Professional wet dry external filters , would this be better than using a sump system. How should I go about getting the water to the filter, is it best to

| Nitrates / Cyano | 23 Oct 2003 20:59 GMT | 3 |
First I should provide a little history and specs on my setup. I have a 58 oceanic w/ a 20 high sump/fuge. The tank has about a 1-2" bed of crushed coral and about 60-70lbs of LR. The sump has about a 4" DSB and is full of macro. My skimmer is a remora w/ pre-skimmer. I do

So here I am in Southern Ontario, trying to set up a reef aquarium as a total newbie. I go into a store that is huge and seems to have tons and tons of great stuff. I talk to a guy who, in the end, is going to fax me a quote for all the
