Shrimp attacking scarlet hermits?16 Oct 2003 16:28 GMT4
I saw my Lysmata amboinensis shrimp with a piece of scarlet hermit
in its mouth, it looked like chocking with too big piece if it...
It was definitely crabs curved abdomen in shrimps mouth!
Shrimp was hanging in the back glass just above hermit crab remains.
Colonial Hydroid Update16 Oct 2003 16:13 GMT4
Some of you may remember my plea a while back for help with Hydroids.
They were taking over my tank and I was quite depressed at the thought
of losing my tank to it. I thought I would give you an update just in
case anyone else runs into this pest.

Okay, you guys have been some major, major help lately, and
I appreciate it!
This morning I woke up, to find that 85% of the hair algae that had been
accumulating over the last 7 days, has disappeared. There are no fish

Pump water Upstairs 14ft16 Oct 2003 05:14 GMT21
I have a 45 gal aquarium in my basement set up as a giant filter for
my two 45 gal saltwater aquariums in my living room.
My question is what kind of pump do I need to get to pump it 14 ft or
more in the air.  All of the pumps I look at I don't think are really
trapping a wrasse16 Oct 2003 05:07 GMT3
I have a lunar wrasse that has become bit of a problem and I would like to
remove him from my tank.  Unfortunately, I have a 450 gallon tank and cannot
(will not!) tear it down just to get him out.  I have tried to catch him by
luring him to the net with food, but to no avail.  Can ...
hang on refugium on 2916 Oct 2003 05:05 GMT1
I've got a 29 gal. to which I'm going to add a small 12" hang on
refugium (bought from acryliccity).  Will it be OK hanging on the side
or must it hang on the back to avoid overly stressing the glass?
Alkalinity / Hardness Levels16 Oct 2003 00:41 GMT5
Can any one please tell me what the Alkalinity and Hardness levels  should
be. I have a 75 Gal tank
I took the Alkalinity readings and got 170 ppm
and Hardness is well over 2000 ppm    and Calcium of 2600ppm
Green Algea Hair15 Oct 2003 22:28 GMT5
I have a 75 gal tank  50 lbs of LR  4" of sand mixed with live sand; which
roughly 4 weeks old.  I have 2 coralife bulbs (10,000K each)  that are on
for 6 hours a day,
Im now growning green algea hair and I also have these worms that are brown
grounding probes15 Oct 2003 20:59 GMT1
I just read an article written by a person who stated that grounding probes
can make matters worse, in fact giving current a POLR and killing fish in
the event of a device failure. I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I'd
like the opinions of a few of the old-timers in here as ...
Wave Makers15 Oct 2003 20:57 GMT1
I am considering getting a wave maker for my tank and am wondering
about a couple things.
First, are they really a big advantage in a reef tank?  I have two
inlets coming from my sump which I know it wouldn't control but I have
converting UG to DSB?15 Oct 2003 20:52 GMT1
hello all.  when i started reefkeeping a couple years back, i made the
mistake of listening to my LFS's advice to use undergravel filtration for my
29g tank.  to date, ammonia, nitrite, and all livestock have been surviving.
BUT, for the life of me, i cannot keep nitrates below ...
good macroalgae eater for a small tank15 Oct 2003 20:22 GMT4
What kind of fish can i put into my 25Gal that will help me keeping at bay
Caulerpa, Gracilaria, Halimeda and other macroalgae i keep in my tank (no
room for a refugium), without outgrowing it?
Since in a previous post i inquired about a yellow tang and i've been
Auto Top-off15 Oct 2003 20:11 GMT8
My new 80 gal reef tank experiences a lot of evaporation - 2-3 gal. a day.
There are no leaks.  Is this normal?
Is there an auto top-off system available that doesn't require a reserve
tank?  I'd like to run a water line to my sump and setup a system to
Later all!15 Oct 2003 19:59 GMT4
Well, I'm gone for two weeks (not that I've been noisy enough for anyone
to notice my absence)...  Getting married and all that... you know what
this means?  A: I've been lurking/talking for 6 months now.  B: Soon,
*very soon*, I'll be able to start setting up my tank! :-)
