Looking at first reef tank12 Nov 2003 22:31 GMT8
I've had freshwater tanks for years including raising discus. I'm pretty
comfortable "fiddling" to keep critters happy. I'd like to set up a smallish
reef tank.
I have the opportunity to pick up a 40 gallon acrylic display tank with the

I got no instructions with it except for what's on the box. It does seem to

Any recommendations?
I just ran out of the LFS purchased Kent Reef Starter Kit, and have been on
the lookout for something a little more cost-effective.
Overflow noise...Newbie question12 Nov 2003 11:32 GMT12
We just got our 55 gallon on a test run w/ FW. The overflow w/ pre filter
makes quite a racket.
Any suggestions for quieting the overflow drain. I'm pushing 1100 gal/hr
through the return jets at top speed. I have slowed it a little but still

Any problems running a UV sterilizer on a timer?11 Nov 2003 18:53 GMT4
I've added a UV sterilizer to my 100 gallon tank, but I've had a
fairly substantial increase in temperature as a result.  The heater
simply isn't needing to work any more, and the tank temperature has
slowly riser to 79 degrees!
Salt/Evaporation problems due to marine aquarium11 Nov 2003 13:02 GMT11
I read the recent post regarding Mr. 4000 and the possibility of
salt/evaporation problems causing him grief.  I have never noticed any
problems from evaporation or salt in my home from my 150 gallon tank.
Has anyone else had a problem with larger tanks?
Ricordia dying11 Nov 2003 05:06 GMT3
I'm not new to this hobby, but have been out of it for a while. I'm a long

8 weeks ago. 75 gallon 4 foot long under tank wet dry, protein skimmer,
charcoal filter, great water flow, good algae colors and all ...
Update on Tanks11 Nov 2003 02:24 GMT2
Four to five months ago I started up my first marine tank in a spare 20g
I had.  Since then I have moved them to my 55g and a 10g.  So far so
good and I have only lost a few fish which I think were not well to
begin with.
