Pictures . . can you help with identification04 Nov 2003 04:54 GMT1
Hello everyone.  I have been busy with teaching, so I haven't been able to
check in for  awhile.  Of course I've got a problem, that's what brought me
back to seek help from you guys and ladies.  My 55 gallon tank is doing
well, with the exception of my brown button polyps.  I ...
When to do First Water Change?04 Nov 2003 04:52 GMT1
When should I do my first water change?  I've been watching my nitrates and
they have yet to accumulate over 10ppm.  My trace minerals have been
replenished through the increase of my salinity.  I started the tank at the
mfg reccomendation of 1.023  but after hanging out here I read ...

Legs (ID parade)03 Nov 2003 20:55 GMT7
Live rock, amazing stuff...
I recently introduced a mixture of Reef Bones, Base Rock and Live rock into
a new tank (started about a month ago). Following the introduction of Live
Rock, all sorts of life emerged; as one would expect. Snails, pods,
Homemade fish food03 Nov 2003 20:26 GMT3
I recently tried making homemade fish food for my Clownfish.
I used about:
10 whole shrimp
30 small freeze dried krill
A few more pictures03 Nov 2003 14:25 GMT11
I've been shooting a few images in the past 24 hours. Originally I was trying to
get some shots of some new zoos, but that and many other images didn't make the
cut.
These did though.
emerald crabs ... time to remove?03 Nov 2003 12:06 GMT1
Are emerald crabs known to bother brittle stars? We bought 4 emerald crabs
awhile ago, and 2 of them just got massive (molted twice!). Recently, we
observed that a couple of the arms of our brittle star seem like they've
been cut. Could this be the crab? I've been looking around ...
Lights03 Nov 2003 03:07 GMT5
I know most reefers prefer the intensity of Metal Halide, or PCFs, but I
hear alot of NO, normal output flourescents users too... I'm guessing they
use T8 lights, and another guess is they are using DIY kinda deals....
Are NO lights, ie, for a 29g 30" wide, in a 4x40W 2-10k ...
Current02 Nov 2003 22:42 GMT7
I got my first marine fish today which my 3 year old picked out. A Percula
Clown of coarse. He seems to be struggling in the current so I turned it
off. Basically with it on he was only in one place and appeared to be
breathing hard. Now that it is off he is moving around and ...
Refugium Questions/Tips02 Nov 2003 01:33 GMT9
Howdy all,
OK....I setup my 75gal tank with a 6" DSB. Took about 6 months for all the
various stages of cycling and now everything is very smooth. The only
problem I have now is MACRO ALGAE!! Holy crap does it grow! I mean, I can
dont need chiller01 Nov 2003 22:56 GMT6
why dont i need a chiller?  my temp stays rock steady at 79deg or wherever i
set it.  My heater is not i the tank, it is in an area of high flow, in the
intake of the siphon chamber.  my lights are NO, i suspect this is why.  i
have a home build wood hood with 4-4 footers inside.  ...
Water flow question01 Nov 2003 20:19 GMT1
I'm in the process of setting up my 55 gal. SW reef tank. I'll be supporting
my LR on a PVC frame.
I'm considering drilling holes in the PVC frame system and connecting an
additional power pump to circulate water from underneath and through the LR

How much more heat if you go from 175W to 250W01 Nov 2003 18:10 GMT6
I am thinking about going from 175W MH's to 250W MH's so I can run the
Iwasaki 6500k's.
My concern is the increase in heat.  I understand that there is some formula
that converts a watt to a BTU, but is it safe to assume there is a linear
Cycling of a new tank.01 Nov 2003 09:21 GMT4
Hello, saltwater collegues!^)
For nearly 25 years I use to live in a freshwater. Now it looks like a time
to start reacclimatizing to saltwater - back to the origin of life.
I've already read smth in this NG and somewhere else, but still have several
