Chronic low Alk?18 Nov 2003 14:42 GMT21
What might cause chronic low Alk?
I am dripping Warner Marine Kalkwasser Plus.
I'm using Kent Pro Buffer DKH to bring up Alk.
Just wondering what would be causing the low Alk

Thank you in advance for reading this. I have had a 20g freshwater tank for
years. When I moved I gave all of my fish to my friend. I am now going to
set up a saltwater tank. Here is water I was thinking. Any and all comments
will be appreciated.

Sump for a 29 gallon18 Nov 2003 08:46 GMT4
Would the effects of a sump on a 29 gallon be worth the investment?
Just so I understand it right. The tanks has a steady current that flows to
the sump and the sump pumps water back in to the tank. This allows for
evaporated water to be added to the sump instead of the tank and ...

Top down photography18 Nov 2003 07:18 GMT7
I built a special topdown photo box for Travis (TS on ReefCentral.com) today.
I'd post a picture of it, but he already has it! :D  Anyway, it is similar to a
specimen box like the LFS use to hang a fish on the front of the tank.
However, all the walls are made of black acrylic, with ...

Keeping the visible algae to a minimum?18 Nov 2003 02:57 GMT1
What do you add to keep the algae in a fish-only to a minimum? I have
a good setup in my tank, and have had one for 5 years now. the problem
is that the algae attaches to everything within a week of cleaning out
the tank (glass, dead coral, dolomite, etc). It's ugly, I know the
Tank pad concerns18 Nov 2003 01:19 GMT3
We recently set-up our 55 gal. acrylic w/ 70 #'s LR.
We placed a 5/8 piece of polystyrene, cut to the dimensions of the tank,
underneath to distribute the weight. Our knee wall top has a slight bow
(about 1/16-1/8") from end to end of tank.

Can't get good alkalinity levels17 Nov 2003 09:56 GMT11
I´ve been fighting hair algae for a year. I tried everything, then i
found my KH was too low (4,5 dkh) and calcium too high (550).
I tried to put things right. So i stopped adding kalk and started
dosing Seachem's Reefbuilder.
BLUE SPOTTED RAY WATER CHANGES ?17 Nov 2003 04:20 GMT1
Does the Pacific Blue Spotted sting ray require the same degree of water
changes as the South American freshwater sting rays ?  That is a water
change of 40 % two times a week ?  Thank.

Algae help needed17 Nov 2003 03:59 GMT2
I'm starting a new 30 gal. marine fish only tank (only 2 small damsels, and
a piece of synthetic coral in there now) and going through the cycle, which
is almost complete. Amonia,
nitrites and PH (8.2) are all stable. I have done a 20% and then 50% water
Having new tank problems?17 Nov 2003 01:44 GMT1
I have been at this only for a couple of years, so I am no expert.  However
I have found a few keys to success for new tanks.  That may save you time
and money.
I have had several sets and now have a 20 and 55.  both reefs both housing
