water changes18 Dec 2003 18:43 GMT1
I do water changes with ro/di water.  I take out 5G, and I have a 5G pail of
fresh water mixed to 1.023.  Is there anything else I should be adding to
the water when I mix the 5G pail or is all I need already in the salt mix?
I use red sea salt.
A way to avoid surface scum18 Dec 2003 18:29 GMT12
My son's 29g sumpless FOWLR kept getting surface scum, which inhibits gas
exchange.  I was sick of it, so I built this little box to help keep the surface
clean.

Help with inherited reef tank18 Dec 2003 17:07 GMT21
A friend of mine set up a very nice 90 gal. reef system, populated it,
then gradually got so busy traveling for business, the system died. He
made an effort to save the live rock by putting it in an
unlit-but-aerated Rubbermaid can. Naturally everything died but the
Stockman overflow USERS18 Dec 2003 15:59 GMT21
I plan on implementing the Stockman overflow.  Use this link
http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe-ken_stockman.htm
Does one position the overflow pipe submerged, partially submerged, or
completely above the waterline AS IT ENTERS THE SUMP.

I've had freshwater off and on for as long as I can remember. But we're
building a new house and I've been thinking in a few months when we move
in, I'd like to use the new and bigger space for a saltwater aquarium.
I'm leaning towards a 30 hexagon shaped (the tall cylindrical ...
Mixing Clowns...17 Dec 2003 05:21 GMT1
I have a 75g about 5 months old.  In addition to a few damsels, I have 2
percula clowns.  I've recently fallen in love with the gold stripe maroon
clown.  I know it is not "advisable" to mix different clowns but I have
successfully kept several FW fish together when it was not ...
Serpent/Brittle Star question...16 Dec 2003 20:33 GMT10
Hi, All
My LFS (90 miles away) has a serpent star but says it will eat all the good
guys in my LS...Is this right?  I can find no reference to it on the sites,
only good remarks.

I was at the LFS today and bought a horseshoe crab.
I trusted this LFS and have for years.  An example was for the long tentacle
anemone.  I was gonna buy one but they guy said not a good idea cuz their
feet were hurt when they were harvested and he showed me the injuries.

FS: The Reef Aquarium (Vol. 1 & 2), Giant Clams, Modern Coral Reef Aquarium Vol. 116 Dec 2003 02:59 GMT2
We tore down our reef and are now moving into a new home.  Trying to
clear out some of the books.  Not planning on setting up a reef any
time soon, and need a little money for appliances.  All books are in
good/excellent condition, and show only a little shelf wear.  Here's
copepods for mandarine goby15 Dec 2003 23:08 GMT6

on how to raise these things properly, and have enough for a mandarine
before he eats it all?

Where/how to place corals?15 Dec 2003 22:29 GMT1
Is there a source that can tell me where to place various
corals/anemones to best effect/security?  Or should I just plunk them
down in various spots?  I can see on various sales websites that some
that need more/less light, more/less current, space/not, so that would
