Iodine testing (Salifert)23 Jan 2004 17:05 GMT10
I just bought a Salifert Iodine (I2 Profi Test) test kit and I'm a
little confused about the readings.
The Iodide test was hard to judge, the color strip is kinda hard to
compare with the water, but I guess it's close to the 0.03 reading.

Algea Battles...23 Jan 2004 01:24 GMT7
For all you beginners out there, I just wanted to say.
When someone tells you to wait until after 6 months to try to eliminate
green algea and stuff...  LISTEN TO THEM.  They are right!
I was plagued with ugly wierd algeas.  First on the glass, then the rocks,

When Corals Die...23 Jan 2004 00:32 GMT9
What happens to corals when they die?  Do the bleach?  I assume it's
different for hard or soft corals?
The coral in question would be a zooanthid.
I was at an LFS today for the first time.  Although they had a fair
what's the catch on this RODI unit?22 Jan 2004 19:23 GMT5
I've been looking at RODI units lately for a new reef tank setup, and
found the item listed below. Basically it's a 6 stage 100gpd unit for
$110. Seems like it's too good to be true, but I don't know enough about
these to tell if there's something fundamentally wrong with it. Can ...

Does anyone know what this is?22 Jan 2004 12:45 GMT4
I setup my first saltwater aquarium over the past few weeks and on
Saturday January 17th I added some live rock.  One of the pieces had
something growing on it.  Both my wife and I liked the way it looked
as it flowed back and forth in the water.  However, in the last 4
Low pH?22 Jan 2004 11:47 GMT21
Is it normal for RO/DI water mixed with Instant Ocean salt to result in a pH
in the 7.8 range?
Water has been mixed for days and is being circulated well.
This pH reading comes from both my newly set up tank as well as the water I

When doing a calcium test on my tank, I decided to test the water that
I was using for water changes.  (I have been struggling to keep
calcium in line, just covering all bases) The salt mix is Tropic
Marine and RO/DI from  a SpectraPure 5 stage. Two hours after mixing I
