I have [or had] a red star about 5 inches across, that actively roamed around the tank. Its been gone for a week now. Do I need to tear the 34 gal. tank apart and find the star in case it is dead and rotting, or just wait? I tested for ammonia to see if it

| Marc-Total Dissolved Solids | 14 Feb 2004 05:43 GMT | 18 |
Was it Total Dissolved Solids that you said to test for to see if your RO unit is working properly? If so what brand of test kit do you recommend? Will spa tests work fine if I can get them locally? Why again do you not recommend the flush kit?

I'm having some difficulty wrapping my brain around alkalinity and it's relationship to PH. Can anyone explain it in "Aquaria for idiots" fashion, or point me to a place where it's explained? I'm starting to feel like I need to take a couple BioChem classes.

I saw Marc say in a post that you should have a MH every two feet. If I had one over my 30" tank in the middle would that be ok or if I put it off to one side maybe so I can keep some softies in the darker area? OR what if I built the reflector to cover the full 30" length would ...
