star missing.  need to find?15 Feb 2004 14:39 GMT2
I have [or had] a red star about 5 inches across, that actively roamed
around the tank.  Its been gone for a week now.
Do I need to tear the 34 gal. tank apart and find the star in case it
is dead and rotting, or just wait?  I tested for ammonia to see if it

I cant get this guy to stay in anyone spot in my tank, I've buried the rear
half of the tube in sand and the next day the entire tube is out on top of
the sand. I've moved him to seperate locations in the tank, but the same

period of time (say 6 months), will I have live sand?

I have a 2 1/2 yr old 150 gallon reef tank   I bought 4 orange
firefish about 2 years ago.  They gradually disappeared leaving a
single firefish for the past year.  I felt like as though that single
firefish might like some companionship so I bought an additional 4

My finger leather has been thriving in my tank for almost two years, but now it
seems to be having problems.  It seems to be deteriorating around the stem or
base of the coral.  I don't see anything happenning to the top portion of the

Marc-Total Dissolved Solids14 Feb 2004 05:43 GMT18
Was it Total Dissolved Solids that you said to test for to see if your
RO unit is working properly?  If so what brand of test kit do you
recommend?  Will spa tests work fine if I can get them locally?
Why again do you not recommend the flush kit?

alkalinity13 Feb 2004 22:36 GMT92
I'm having some difficulty wrapping my brain around alkalinity and it's
relationship to PH. Can anyone explain it in "Aquaria for idiots" fashion,
or point me to a place where it's explained? I'm starting to feel like I
need to take a couple BioChem classes.

Help with Protein Skimmer13 Feb 2004 11:48 GMT1

MH every two feet??13 Feb 2004 06:41 GMT13
I saw Marc say in a post that you should have a MH every two feet. If I had
one over my 30" tank in the middle would that be ok or if I put it off to
one side maybe so I can keep some softies in the darker area? OR what if I
built the reflector to cover the full 30" length would ...
