MH recommendations in UK?19 May 2004 13:28 GMT1
I've just been on phone to System2000 to find out that the 150W MH bulb that
is in my unit is no longer available.  it's a large Coralux single ended
10,000K bulb. I thought that it was about time that I replaced it, I phoned
and ordered and 4 days later the wrong bulb arrives ...
protein skimmer placement19 May 2004 12:32 GMT4
I am in the process of starting a new tank and I want to get a protein
skimmer.  When the companies say "in the sump" do they mean that the
skimmer goes under the tank or does it acutally sit in the wet/dry
filter?

Water Changes17 May 2004 21:15 GMT2
Can someone please tell me what should initiate a water change and how best
to do this with minimal distruption to the tank and it's inhabitants?
I was told by one guy at the LFS that it was required monthly (±20%?) but
another guy at the same LFS reckoned it wasn't required unless ...
Black Mold in fish tank, help!17 May 2004 18:19 GMT1
I have had my 46 gallon tank running now for several months with 6
medium sized gold fish in (wanting to add more soon).  Last week we
started to see a black mold growing on the glass and on the rocks.
Now its gotten a little worse. The water is testing fine and the fish
Cynobacteria/Red Slime Algae: A Success Story (Long)16 May 2004 17:25 GMT8
Well, I spent years fighting what seems like a loosing battle with
consistent Cynobacteria battles (I always seemed to have perfect levels of
nitrite, ammonia, phosphate etc.). It used to get everywhere in my tank
spreading like wildfire. After 3 years its seems to have finally gone ...
Shrinking Xenia - Help?15 May 2004 22:12 GMT7
I put a small colony of xenia into my tank a few months ago.  (I'm not
sure exactly what species, but it's not the pulsing type.)  It really
took off- spread out over the rock and grew really tall, almost up to
the water's surface.  Color was a light brown, and the fronds were

bubble deflation15 May 2004 21:14 GMT1
a couple of days ago one of my two bubble corals just deflated until all
that was left was a white skim on a piece of rock. there were no water
quality issues that I can pinpoint other than the removal of about 24 sea
slugs that may have been plundering my corals.

What type of Corals?15 May 2004 07:56 GMT2
Hi! I have a 55 gallon FOWLR, Jebo Protein skimmer and wet/dry filter. My
lighting is 2 - 55W 10k and 2 55W actinic blue PC. A/N/N is 0/0/15. What
type of corals can I keep? I am looking at mainly mushrooms and soft corals
that are hardy as I am new to the hobby. Is there a website ...
turboflotor 1000 classic PS15 May 2004 05:09 GMT3
I am considering this model for my 90 gal.  I like the way you can hook
it up to a bypass off of your overflow, which allows you to use no pump
to operate the skimmer.  Has anybody used this skimmer?  Does this
skimmer really work well this way or does it require the use of a pump
Berlin turbo Skimmer14 May 2004 18:48 GMT1
Hello, I have a Berlin turbo, that seems to be doing nothing. Have run it
for two weeks with hardly any froth.  Any recomendations on a good skimmer?
I am tired of wasting money.

Mushrooms just jumping off the rocks14 May 2004 16:54 GMT6
Last weekend I bought a rather dense colony of mushrooms and today I
noticed three or four of the smaller ones had "jumped" off the rock they
came on and are floating around the bottom of the tank. Is this normal?
Haven't seen it happen before. I was going to just stick them ...
